What Song are you listening to?

A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

Saw him open for the Pogues in Austin where he argued with a heckler. :)

RIP

Last time i saw him was terrible, he was straight into rehab after (not for the first or last time). But the first couple times I saw him he was fantastic. I have a hard time listening to his "Slipping & Sliding" (which keeps popping up on my youngest's playlist), because it's just too sad given later events, although it's also a lovely song so i ride it out. Listened to Steve Earle's "JT" on a road trip this summer, which finishes with a song about their last phone call and Mrs. Me and I were both crying.

That audience is entertainingly dead.

Was thinking the same. I don't think I've ever seen a more determinedly dead audience at a Pogues gig.

There was an all seated Pogues arena gig in Liverpool one time. That was hard work. People seemed too think that having paid for a seat they were compelled to sit in it. Bizarre.

Greta Garbage and the Trashcans - "The Girl With The Luminous Brain"
https://soundcloud.com/pete-holidai/gre ... ge-and-the

That's Pete Holidai, Steve Averill and Billy Morley pre-The Radiators From Space.

And of course if we were to jump ahead to the Radiators' first single, "Television Screen", we would here the words:

So here I am, just watch me now I’ve got a new band
It’s the victim and the weapon this guitar in my hand
Greta Garbage Trashcans playing hard and fast
Things are looking good at last
Don’t call me blank generation I’m doin’ the best that I can

That was the version I was listening to.

When I was 21, I won an MTV contest to sing backup (with others) for Iron Maiden during one song at the Donington festival.
Part of the prize included going to an A&R’s office at Capitol Records and picking up a $500 check for incidentals.
She opened these long drawers full of their artists merch and I only took a single of that song. Though I must’ve taken the Iron Maiden cd/tape? because I was not a fan and wouldn’t have known any songs otherwise.

I just remember that people had desks out in the round hallways at Capitol. Pretty ghetto.

Was sitting on a table in the Iron Maiden tent when Lemmy walked in and I was all... “Well, will you look at that.” He was chatting up members of Vixen, LMAO. Slash and the blonde G’N’R guitar player were completely fucked up and being followed around by keepers in the backstage festival area. Like children.

Megadeath played, Metallica did not. Whatever, Lars.

Not my pic.
