Song: Thousands are Sailing
Artist: The Pogues

I've heard some positive things about these guys.

Trooper's Lament, by Utah Phillips

Listen all you troopers, here's a lesson you should know
From an older brownshoe soldier, who marched off long ago;
They will use your pride and passion for to settle all their fights
Keep your pride in your trousers, and your captain in your sights

The internet tells me I saw Jones on June 5, 1985 at SDSU.

I remember running into an acquaintance after the show who was totally fanboying out, had met the beast, got autographs, etc. and I was all... calm the fuck down. Nothing to get excited about.

People were throwing puzzle pieces around during the line about puzzle pieces not fitting.

The days of handing 4 packs of California Coolers to strangers in line at 7-11 near campus and slamming them in the Burger King bathroom (when Boone’s Farm wasn’t available).

I had a friend in middle school (Grade 7/8, so 12/13 years old) who LOVED Howard Jones, even kinda looked like him and definitely had a copycat haircut (making him one of the few 12 year olds with a hair style). Most people at that school were total dicks, and Dan was lovely and real, and so I've always had a soft spot for Mr. Jones and his positive vibe.

I got in trouble in middle school for being disruptive on testing days with my good looks :roll:, putting all the benches and stuff in the bathroom (for no good reason), flipping off a predator teacher who was trying to DJ and forwarding the (not glass encased) clock hands so my class got out ten whole minutes early. Woo hoo! That class was in a freaking trailer and I was over it.

I know I was banned from the grad dance but can’t recall walking the line and I certainly didn’t graduate high school with my 3 credits. LMAO.

I also wrote something unholy in a creepy male teacher’s yearbook who had commented appreciatively on my appearance daily. That I didn’t get in trouble for, as it was his last day of which I was fully aware.

In other words, problem student. 8)

We were in high school, my Jones fanboying friend was flamboyant, as we all were.
The 80’s were pretty, pretty good.
