A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

I don't mean Mr Dury and the band were in the back of the car. That would be crowded. Listening to it now, anyway.

It would have been doubly confusing since you'd think Mr. Drury would know those lyrics weren't right. And also would be crowded.

Well yes, but he'd probably quickly learn that disagreeing with the hazardettes when they're united on anything is a serious mistake. So he'd work out that it's better simply to go along with it and reinterpret his own song.

Fortunately they usually got the words of Pogues songs right. Their version of Bottle of Smoke was particularly memorable.

As it should be.

Actually they did have one slight but noticeable adaptation to the lyrics of that one. But "Fuck the Yanks and eat their pies", as sung by three tiny under-7-year-old girls, was pretty good anyway.

Speaking as a Yank, I'm not positive how to feel about this.

Vulgarity from the mouths of children? Sure, that's all well and good. Fuck the Yanks? We probably have it coming. But eating our pies? That's just low. That's MY pie!

I have to admit that my feelings on the matter are somewhat elastic depending on what flavor of pie it is.

Fair enough. I'd share that opinion too. The girls have always had a bit of a thing about pies, and especially in song lyrics. They've been known to do a good rendering of Bruce Springsteen's "The Pies That Bind".

Masters Of War (Bob Dylan), performed by Mountain with Ozzy Osborne
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYaEtijdSrg

Lelsie West & Corky Laing re-convened Mountain in 2007 and recorded a whole album of Bob Dylan Covers, with Ozzy dueting on the title track and Warren Haynes guesting on guitar on "Serve Somebody" and "Times they are a-changing". Includes two versions of "Blowin' In The Wind" - "Heavy Version" and "Acoustic Version". They do deep track "Everything is Broken". This album is magnificent, how did i not know it existed?!

This was my on-the-way-to-gig track for years. If I can ever go to a gig again, it might well be once more.

And given the way this year has gone, it's probably the best advice right now.

HNY all.

Heading towards it with one of this year's losses. RIP Toots

Should’ve linked to the original Tom Morello post but sometimes I forget how to depending on the platform... yadda, yadda.
