Is it "Bowie" (and more generally "B") day? "Plantasia" throws the whole pattern off. :(

Ha. I didn't even notice that.

Plantasia calms me down when I want to run away at work.
I heard somebody blasting Enya out of their car yesterday.
Things that make you go hmmm.

I'm having trouble imagining Enya being blasted out of anything. Seems dangerous. Every time I hear Enya (at any volume) I just get sleepy.

Edit: This has reminded me of being a teenager in Santa Cruz. There was this dude that would drive up and down the Pacific Garden Mall for hours in this big brown van, the windows down, blasting the soundtrack to "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly." I always thought that was a really funny choice for things to blast.

That could really work. If I had a vehicle with a half-decent sound system I might try it. Though it might work better in Santa Cruz than round these parts.

Is that the mall with the 70's slatted wood architecture?
With the shitty movie theater?

Honestly, Santa Cruz is all book stores, Pizza My Heart, Longs, Trader Joes, Pacific Cookie Company and Poet and Patriot (day drinking) to me.

Doing nothing, just walking around..

It's awesome.

I will say that the adorable movie theater has never had a decent midnight movie playing when I'm in town. Always Back to the Future or Indiana Jones moronathons. Ugh.

Dunno. I was a teenager there in the 80s. Moved out in the very early 90s.

I recall there being some theaters in the area (the "Del Mar" maybe). And Bookshop Santa Cruz at the north end, and Logos at the south end.

Yeah, it was a good town to be a teen in. I miss it from time to time.

Not sure it worked in Santa Cruz much better than it would work where you are. :)

Artist: Underworld
Song: Push Upstairs (Darren Price remix)
A very thump-thump-thump club pop-EDM remix. So far not really liking it. But then I've never been much of a fan of the original either.

Artist: The Human League
Song: (Keep Feeling) Fascination

Wow. This is both terrible and awesome. To the X-TREME!

I am now being nostalgic for all this absolutely terrible early-80s English pop. I never, ever thought I'd be wistful for this part of my life.

Artist: Joe Jackson
Song: Stepping Out

This song seems to have aged well. Much better than what DJ Shuffle has followed it with:

Artist: Trio
Song: Da Da Da (I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me)

The thing is, some of it really is pretty good. I still like a lot of it. But if/when you watch one of the many 80s music compilation shows (Top of the Pops from the 80s is more or less constantly on some channel or other here) you realise that there was also a whole lot of dross. And some mesmerising haircuts.

I do have a sort of soft spot for that one, partly because knowing it won me a pub quiz a while ago.

Well yeah. Most definitely. Hell, our favorite band is a product of the 80s and early 90s, so there we go.

None-the-less, sometimes DJ Shuffle pulls up some dross that reminds me that, overall, these decades are best forgotten (or at least listened to very quietly, on headphones, where nobody will know my shame). I put Human League in that bucket. Howard Jones too. Thomas Dolby? Yep, he's there. Thompson Twins were played recently and floated to the top of the bucket for a short while (fun fact: Cream isn't the only thing that floats).

On the other hand I've recently been enjoying Art of Noise (we do not speak of their brief period flirting with one Mr. Max Headroom). Talking Heads are always fun. The Clash have aged pretty well. Bowie? Always awesome (even the stuff from the 80s).

So yeah - one must choose wisely and try REALLY hard to remember that not ALL the music from their youth was awesome, nor was it all fucking terrible.

So a whole bunch of words for "Me too."

Artist: Galactic

I'd fish the Human League out of that bucket, I actually think they weren't bad at all. Agree with you about the rest. I have the Thompson Twins album on vinyl but no desire ever to listen to it again. Although now I'm being sorely tempted of course...

Now there's a song.
