A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

I subtracted incorrectly. Twenty-six and it was the Raise Your Fist and Yell tour.

Rob Halford used to live near an old apartment of mine. Never saw him around the neighborhood, but I don't drink coffee nor did I spend much time at Wolf's Leather Bar. :) He recorded a solo album in the penthouse of a nearby hotel that I love. The man has excellent taste. They need to make a proper movie about him. Nobody gives a damn about that other guy that Wahlberg played or his annoying girlfriend/mommy.

Frances, my deepest apologies for making you do that math and get that answer. I owe you a drink.

For what it's worth i though the Trash/Hey Stoopid lineup kicked ass over the Kane Roberts era. I recently watched the "Trashes The World" vido and remembered what a great band that was (if not a very great album).

"The Kinsale Herring", Pat Kilbride with Tom McManamon.

"People love this well-known song wherever I go, especially when Tommy McManamon plays banjo..."

On Pat's "Nightingale Lane" album.

So I finally got rid of my 1995 Camry yesterday and bought a new 2014 Camry. Upgraded from vintage cassette player to a CD player, so I christened the CD player with
"Transmetropolitan" -1st song by the Pogues and 1st song on for the new car!

That sounds like the perfect song to christen a new car with! Did you drink the rat's piss, kick the shite and not go home that night?

Now listening to No Man's Land by Fairport Convention.

Yeah, there are just certain songs that Sandy turns into something transcendent, and that's one of them. It's even more amazing that a lot of them seem to be those BBC live recordings. Imagine hearing them sung like that live!

You Never Wanted Me.Sandy Denny solo and with Fairport, the latter was a BBC Radio One session in 1968 ,with Iain Matthews sharing the vocals. You're bang on Leadshoes,i've been playing The Rails CD over and over, and suddenly i was transported back to the world of Fotheringport Confusion with a little bit of John & Beverley Martyn thrown in for good measure. Now,wheres my trench coat?

I love Sandy's voice on that song, but unfortunately the words to the song always make anyone who sings it sound like a petulant child. :/
For me, it's ones like Lowlands of Holland, Reynardine, Quiet Joys, Bruton Town, Next Time Around, North Star Grassman, and Lord Bateman that just leave me awestruck. And Banks of the Nile, of course!

edit: How the hell did I forget Tam Lin and The Deserter, two of my favorite Fairport songs and two of my all-time favorite songs, period.

And now here it's Muirshin Durkin, Pogues, to break up the trench coat weather!

I also christened my last van with The Pogues, tho living in the big city i used "Gridlock".

I would just like to also second those comments about the Sandy Denny BBC recordings. Stunning stuff, a must have if you've not heard.
