I'm A Rover : Great Big Sea. I am surprised to hear that 'The Shanty Man' has quit GBS,saw them live,a couple of times,mid-late 90's,excellent band, only Alan & Bob remain from the original line up.

Have you heard anything else? I've heard (on CBC) that the band is now "on hiatus", and that Sean would comment on his departure in the new year.

You Warlike Lads of Russia : The Navigators. Re. Great Big Sea,'on hiatus'generally means one thing in the music biz and if you read between the lines on the message the band have put on their web page,i would have to say that mighty Great Big Sea are no more.I hope i'm wrong and wide off the mark, but something big must have happened for Sean McCann to jump ship after 20 years,he has another solo album out soon, though the other guys in GBS have also had solo or other projects away from the band, maybe they have just grown apart,it happens, though from what i have been told, from my contacts in St.John's,there was an 'uneasy atmosphere'and a lot of tension within the ranks.Of course, this kind of thing simply doesn't happen with bands, does it now?

True, and 20 years is a pretty good run. I'm always a fan of the idea of ending it BEFORE you all hate each other and the music suffers. Then the chance of a reunion is better too.

Just listened to "You & Me" Dave Matthews Band. They've just been announced to headline at Milwaukee Summerfest! I'm so going!

Fricken weird.

I still quite enjoy The Police (yeah yeah, Sting content, etc). It is well understood, though, that Sting without the rest is utterly dull. So here's Robert Downey Jr. joining Sting to make an old Police song boring. How is that even possible?

Their earlier Ally McBeal sing-songery had Paul Reubens, at least.

I once went and saw Sting, only because Concrete Blonde were opening, followed by a sole percussionist/vocalist named Vinx. Obviously CB blew him off the stage, but to demonstrate how boring he was, Vinx - who was a solo guy doing a percussion/vocal thing that was really 1/2 stand up comedy ALSO blew him off the stage.

"She Knows" - Richard Manuel, with a live harmony with Rick and later overdubs by Garth (and i'm not sure if that's real violin or Garth, but if it's real i'm thinking it could be Vassar Clements, who recorded with The Band on "Jericho" around the time this came out). Anyway, lovely as only Richard could be:
