A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

Is it finally a worthy cover of the song?

Probably not. The title wrong. Surely it's MEANT to be Thousands of Sailors. If that detail got messed up how good can the rest be?

Actually, I quite like it.

Things that totally seem funny sometimes aren't in hindsight.

I've no idea if it's any good or not. Given how many terrible covers of Pogues songs there are I'm delighted that you've stumbled across a cover (and of one of your songs) that evidently doesn't blow with a great wind.

Agreed. Smokey and the Miracles did the first version, didn't they? Though I do love The Slits' take on it too.

Actually I was really listening to some of The Slits' John Peel session. Which I remember listening to in my teens in my bedroom, as one did. Thought it was astonishing then, and still do now. Then I got distracted on to their cover of I Heard It... As you do.

Anyway, here's The Slits: Love & Romance from the Peel sessions.

It may have been but I thought it was Gladys Knight & the Pips. I'll now have to go and check.

The Slits pretty much passed me by. I am not really sure why, because in retrospect, they are just the kind of thing I would usually have liked.

The Miracles recorded it first, Gladys released it as a single first. That's 10p I owe you.

I accept payment in beer. So that's probably about a teaspoonful of beer you owe me.
