A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

Still miss Ian Dury [R.I.P.]

Almost anything by Mr Bragg hits the spot. Even if it doesn't directly reference Essex, it always seems to have an Essex feel to it. Or perhaps that's just me. There's a great sleeve with a picture of him leaning on a "Welcome to Essex" sign somewhere...

He and Ian Dury are both all-time heroes.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Billys Sexuality single cover has Billy leaning on county road sign, there is a picture of it on Kirsty MacColl . com .[Freeworld] Think the late Kirsty [R.I.P.] did some backing vocals on it./

Yeah, it's difficult, and you need to use the name Janet 'cause you want to rhyme it with gannet. You have to be very careful the way you plan it.

Deconstructing Mr Dury's text, I'd say it's significant that this particular female comes from over the river. Adds a sort of exotic feel to it.

And cheers, RR. Yes, that's the one I was thinking of.

Ramones: California Sun
(I wish. It's grey and drizzly and blinkin' freezin' here in this English summer. I blame the government.)

There is a song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show called Dammit Janet.

No, that's no good. Mr Dury would have had to ban it.

Photosynthesis - Frank Turner which I think is absolutely wonderful. Frank's been the soundtrack to soulfinger Jr's A Level revision and this'll stick in my memory for a long time.

We are now listening to something by Frank Zappa.

I'm not sure what. I'm not sure Jake knows either. It's on tape, not CD or vinyl and I think he taped it off someone else. I'm not the fan, he is, he seems to be loving it, I'm finding it, well, kinda interesting.

It's a Friday, and i'm sitting in an (almost) empty community centre 'till midnite (gym floors being re-varnished). But this is ok for two reasons:
1) I'm doing some work for my other job at the same time & double-billing.
2) I'm working my way through my latest discovery, "Rock On" by "The Bunch" aka Richard Thompson, Linda Peters(Thompson), Sandy Denny, Pat Donaldson, Ashley Hutchings, Gerry Conway, Dave Mattacks.

1. "Crazy Arms"
2. "That'll Be the Day"
3. "Don't Be Cruel"
4. "The Loco-Motion"
5. "My Girl the Month of May"
6. "Love's Made a Fool of You"
7. "Willie and the Hand Jive"
8. "Jambalaya (On The Bayou)"
9. "When Will I Be Loved"
10. "Nadine"
11. "Sweet Little Rock 'n' Roller"
12. "Learning the Game"
