I can safely say my military service consisted of keeping the UP of Michigan safe from Canadiens and doing recon missions to the Soo to score good hockey equipment and Italian food!

Saturday night at the children's hospital, with the youngest hooked up to the machine that goes "ping", huffing steroids through a mask. Having had no symptoms worth mentioning for 3 years, she's been kinda asthmatic since a flu over the holidays and it's culminated in her first emergency room visit for an asthma attack ever ( she's almost 12).

Times like this, I'm very thankful to live in a society with socialised medicine (although it's a raw deal to have to pay for parking at an emergency hospital visit, that doesn't seem ethical. I mean, I can afford it, but what if I couldn't?)

I had a family member in ICU on a night there was a full statewide blackout. We had driven said patients car to the hospital to keep it running through their stay. Some creep stole it right out of the parking garage. That's not quite like stealing a car from the mall. Who decides to steal from hospital patients and their family? Scum.

Hope your daughter is doing better. My 9 year old son has "cold induced" asthma, only gets symptoms after he gets a cold or if he is exposed to pet dander. He can go a year or so with nothing, then wham. We load up on his medicines and make sure they are current, whether they are used or not.

Thanks for the well-wishing, we got home after midnight, after she wasn't vibrating anymore from all the 'roids, although still wide away so we stayed up watching "The Nightly Show" till she was tired.

Her asthma is very "cold induced" as well. and actually this was the result of her having the flu after christmas, she was left with "post-viral cough" which seems to have triggered the ashtma. Happily for her, wiki tells us: "A study has claimed theobromine[5] in dark chocolate is more effective [than codine] [6]" in helping the cough recede. Spoiler, like all the honey lemon tea i make her wasn't good enough now she gets chocolate as medicine!

Thanks for the advice, we are now committing to always having up-to-date puffers in the house. Meanwhile, back to homeopathy and leafy dark greens and such to boost general lung health...

Well, just when my daughter has been a full week more or less fully recovered, our entire neighbourhood gets tear gassed by a chemical fire at the port:

Despite closing the windows and our co-op shutting off the building air intake fan, she started coughing and coughing. We evacuated her to Grandma's out near Cdn Steve. Today the air quality is declared not normal or good but suspiciously "acceptable", which i guess means Michigan, Ohio, LA or Sarnia on a regular day. The fire is still burning, but "under control" so she'll spend another day out by the Fraser River.

There was no evacuation, but there was a "shelter in place" order for our neighbourhood. But fuck, this neighbourhood has a LOT of homeless, how the hell are they supposed to "close all windows and doors"?! I work at a community centre, we shut all air intakes and closed all recreation facilities (ie: no fitness centre) but kept the buildings open for anybody stuck outside.
