Not so long ago a delivery man round these parts stole the whole of the vanload that he'd been employed to deliver that day by a well-known interweb sales emporium.

Each address (including mine) was given the same excuse: the package had been "left behind the locked gate at the property".

It wasn't the most intelligent of crimes, as his employers had his full name and contact details.

Our van, which we just paid $1,100 to replace timing belt, drive belts & oil change, died mysteriously deep in cowboy country of Washington State. It's still there, in a mechanic's lot, had to rent a car to get home.

Don't really want to abandon it but can't afford to fix it at the moment.

Yeah well turns out it's a blown head gasket, which then cracked the radiator, so it would be more than $2,000 in labour, plus parts. So it's being sold to a scrapper.

I think we're going to join a car co-op for local travel, and just rent for trips. Private car ownership has fucking bankrupted us twice now, we just canceled our trip to go see the big show for the end of the kids' music camp, which is a highlight of our year and also in a lovely place with a beach, and we're stuck in the bloody loud stink of the city all summer. Counting our pennies for groceries till payday.

The first time it bankrupted us, we had to cancel our trip to see The Pogues in Vegas, a close second in tragedy to missing seeing the kids play.

At lunch time I bought myself a chocolate muffin, sat down on a bench and began to eat it. I hadn't eaten very much of it when a large fly zoomed down and decided that it wanted to share it with me.

Somebody stole my underpants.

I bike some distance to work, and bring a clean shirt, socks, underwear to wear, then change back to bike home. I hang the sweaty stuff in a locker (community centre) which i have never locked. Yesterday, somebody lifted my underwear. Sure they were new fancy cycling underwear, but only $25 and still underwear, is there resale for that?!

It also reminds me of being a kid sent to summer camp, and my mother wrote my name on every piece of clothing, incl. my underpants. Perhaps it's time to go back to that.
