speaking of Disneyworld, they opened an Irish themed restaurant called Raglan Road at the entrance to Paradise Island a couple of years back. Some supposedly famous Irish chef runs it. There is also a gift shop and a fish and chip shop there. The restaurant itself plays a lot of Pogues along with a lot of good Irish music. And the food is good. Hal Roach recordings play in the bathrooms.

The chips are fantastic. I stopped in there a couple of years ago while we were waiting to go to a concert or something. I still dream of the chips to this day.

This is turning into a thread for people that just want to say something nice! ;-)

OK i'll get it back on track.....I had to go from damn 80 degrees in Orlando when we left to 37 when I got home at Newark. Sorry everyone outside the US, that would be about 26 to 2 Celsius......AND had a 1 1/2 layover in Atlanta! :x

When I moved to Brisbane, I left England at -5C and arrived in Singapore for a 36C plus whatever humidity (during the late evening) and arrived in Brissie a few hours later and it hit the +40C mark with humidity of over 70%, and all we had on us were the winter clothes we left Heathrow wearing, until we got to our digs to unpack.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

NewJerseyRich, it's 82 today but it's going to feel like 87 with the humidity! Kind of tough to feel Christmassy but that's where all the OTT lights and decorations come in. Did you manage to get to Universal? That's the place to go!

Ahh 35 here with a threat of snow in the next few days, but thats perfect Christmas time weather to me. :D I love Universal, this time of year we actually were able to get 7 day Universal passes online for the same price as one day/2 park passes at the gate. I don't know if I could spend 7 days in a row there but, we did about 3 1/2 days and saw everything in both parks. Seems we were a year early as they're adding a Harry Potter section to Islands of Adventure for 2010. My kids are older now so they can go off on their own and Mom and Dad can have some time on City Walk or whatever. I have to agree, to me, it tops Disney.......... Then I had the real reason for the trip, 3 days at my parents house over Thanksgiving......ooooh that's another story for another time!

Damn Jon thats some serious heat. I can't take that humidity. When it's time I'm retiring to Vermont/New Hampshire. My kids made that same mistake of stayIng in shorts on the flight(s) too so they were freezing their tails off when we landed back home. Wouldn't listen to Dad but, hey thats nothing new :D

Spent the last 4+ days ill. Don't think it was the swine but certainly felt like flu. Fever, Chills to the core, drenching sweats. Two days in bed unable to move or eat. Finally feeling about 80% back to normal.

I have developed flu today, and my throat is really sore and I feel sick, was going to try and get back to my coursework tonight, after a break for The Pogues gigs, but don't know if I feel up to it. :(

My office is closed starting tomorrow until the rest of the year. I was going to also take off today and yesterday but last week my boss, in a rare fit of generosity, said that most of the office would be gone anyway and just keep my blackberry on in case anything comes up. I had a few things to do so I figured I would catch up on a few things and not worry too much. So then this afternoon he sent me an email in reply to an assignment I got done last week what the next steps he wanted done were and to GET THEM DONE BY THE END OF THE WEEK. He is off and the company is closed until January 4, but he wants this work done by the end of this week. And this is not something he needs to do his job; this is a plan for the work I am going to do during the first quarter of 2010.

This email came right before an email from our CEO to take off early and enjoy the holiday. so I did

It must be a sign of the inherent patience and good-naturedness of humanity that the person who invented the conference call has not been strung up by the nadgers and left to suffer horribly yet tediously.

Why do these things take forever and never work the way they are supposed to? Who ever thought they were a good idea anyway?
Growls.

[This has now turned into a moan, so I am moving it to the Moaners thread. Still waiting for it to be sorted out properly. Apparently it is partly the fault of the weather. Inevitably.]

A couple of weeks after I moved to Vancouver, I got a call from a creepy man.
"Hi is this Sandy?"
Yes.
"Well, Sandy, your car's going to get impounded."
Really? What for?
"For unpaid parking tickets. I repeat, first time I see your car, I will be impounding it."
This isn't possible. I've only been in Vancouver for two weeks. I haven't gotten any parking tickets. I've only driven a couple of times.
"Are you Sandy ___ ____?"
No. My first name is Sandy, but I'm not Sandy ____ ____.
"Uh huh. Yeah, sure. Your car is going to get impounded."

I didn't tell him, but that was the previous occupant's name. She's a well-known writer/director/producer. Later I got another call from the bailiff. "When you decide you are Sandy ___ ___, contact me at __________".

Welcome to Vancouver.

I just went to take a package to the post office. On the way there, as I was going along the pavement, a bus went past, through a large puddle (it was raining all morning), and showered me with muddy water. The bus stopped at a traffic light, so I overtook it. I move quite fast sometimes. About a hundred yards later, the bus overtook me again, and it happened again. Baxtard bus driver. Though even I'd have to admit it had comedy value.

Muddy water twice. I think there's a blues in there somewhere.
