Just because I can do more than one thing at a time...because my work laptop is as big as an air craft carrier, and packed to the bring with RAM and other goodies.
That's because I know how to use it so get lost you gimp! But still why would they care! I never think twice about what anyone else is doing at work, or out of work! No. Don't give a crap, so why do they care about what I'm up to??

Yeah...I agree. Kinda ruins it a bit. I don't shop for Christmas till it's nearly upon me.

I don't shop till later too, but it's due to procrastination more than anything else.
Personally, I have nothing against fake trees, just when they're advertised in October. My family's had one for years now. It was a one time $100 purchase as opposed to $60+ every year, there aren't nearly as many needles to clean up and you don't have to worry about it catching on fire (as much).

Not yet, I've got all the Halloween stuff out at the moment. I start getting my plastic tree out the day after Thanksgiving. I get that all set up and settled then start decorating the next day. Why so early? Because I enjoy Christmas immensely, I have a kid too so there's another excuse. So I say why not get the bloody thing up early and start the celebrations! :mrgreen:

Also, after spending many years battling to be in the US, I embrace the customs and fun of the holidays with full vigor! It's pretty much standard in the circles I operate in to get the tree out by Thanksgiving.

Now what DOES annoy me, is people who don't take the stuff DOWN in time. I've seen people with outside chrismas lights and decorations still up in March. It is depressing and hard work to take it all down but more depressing to keep looking at it! :shock:

On that particular occasion yes I did. But not always. I stand by the fact that I get a lot more work done if I'm allowed to go off the beaten track once or twice while I'm doing it. It helps my creativity (that's another word for it!) flow!

I agree, we have a couple of neon-coated sugar traps around our way - it freaks me out, but luckily I don't have to pay their leccy bills!.

Halloween really makes me angry, loads of little bastards running up our path and ringing the doorbell in a frenzy and begging for sweets.
We had a sign up last year advising people doing Trick or Treat not to bother ringing, but still they rang and then their parents look surprised when they're told to Fuck off and shut the gate behind them.

I'll have a rant about Fireworks in October in a minute :wink:

Grumbles about modern Halloween in the way that a grumpy old geezer like me is supposed to do. 'Twas never like that in my day, we'd never have got away with all that nonsense, etc., etc.

I don't know if you get this anywhere else, but we have Mischief Night, which falls the day before Halloween.

It's a night when the local youth go out and cause as much havoc as possible, throwing eggs, flour, smashing car windows, you name it they do it, it's a real problem in certain parts of Liverpool. One year, before I had a car, I was walking home from work and some local youths set on me and egged me for no reason than just because they thought it would be funny. I was wearing a good coat at the time and had to take it to the dry cleaners because it was ruined. :twisted:

I knew one of the kids too and I had a good rant and told them I knew where they lived and I'd come and get them back. To which one of them told me rather politely to 'f*** off'' before they walked off. I did speak to his mum actually and she was very apologetic fortunately (she is one of my neighbours).

I see nothing wrong with hitting kids that decide pissing over my back gate is a good idea, they're lucky they don't get the brick that keeps the gate steady in the wind thrown at them.

Seriously, a few months ago there were a group of kids aiming and throwing sticks at cyclists on the local bike track, trying to get the sticks through the spoke and knock of the cyclists. These kids would neither appreciate a telling off or a polite discussion as to why they shouldn't be doing what they're doing, but kicking them as you cycle past stopped them.

Ahh yes, we have it as well here in the States it's called different things in different regions. Our area it's Mischief night also. They do all you said above...along with the mildly annoying soaping car windows, eggs or shaving creme all over your car, smashing Jack O' Lanterns, toilet papering your trees and bushes, to the famous paper bags of dog poo set on fire on your front steps and ringing your doorbell. I had a friend in the Detroit area I believe it's called Devils night. A bit more crazy there. They would set fires, turn over cars etc. Philadelphia gets wilder like that also. Though it has been calm area over the last few years at least in my neighborhood. Let's hope for another calm one this time around.

They have it in some of the villages hereabouts. It centres on Halloween and seems to go on for about a week. Eggs and flour are just the start. Bloomin' kids. 'Tis anarchy, but not in an entirely good way. You wouldn't want to be innocently out and about after dark in some of those fen villages at this time of year.

Mind you, you probably wouldn't want to be out and about after dark in the fen villages at any time of year. You never know what kind of grisly creatures could come crawling through the miry blackness out of those ditches, stealthily tracking your every footstep, with only the occasional squelching sound somewhere behind you just daring you to cast a peek over your shoulder...
