I don't know about you but when I get drunk they start sneering and chortling and jeering at me if they smile at all.

Oh right ... something nice. Guinness ice cream fried in butter. With scotch.
More whiskey

I think this is something most people have suspected.

More than two months sober! I'm not sure how "nice" it is, but it does feel good remembering how I ended up sleeping naked in a pile of garbage (yeah that happens sober, too...) :p

The nicest trend i've noticed - at least out here in Vancouver - is that Halloween seems poised to get bigger than Christmas. I'm a bigger fan of the Hallow than I am of the Christ, and have a lot less baggage for the holiday itself, so I'm thrilled.

This year was so swimming with activities that I'm only this morning roasting our pumpkin seeds.

And for the record we were: Skeezy Satan from Surrey (Me, satin flame shirt, athletic pants, skimpy red underwear & rams horns); Anne Bolyn (Mrs. Me, post-head choppin'); Rather cute devil (12 yr old); Lady Guenevere (7 year old). The boy went to "Fright Nights" and came 2nd in a hot dog eating contest. Now that's scary.

That's it - I need to move to Canada. Here in the States, there are only about 1 or 2 houses per block with the porch light on for trick-or-treaters, as I discovered with my kid this year. That sucks. When I was a kid, it was rare for a house to not be giving out candy.

I think just about every single house in our neighborhood in NC gave out candy. My son gets so much he still had a little bit of candy left over from the previous year. He's 4 so he doesn't get free reign to eat what he wants, but still.

But you do, right? That's the best part, the parental tax.

In parts of Dublin it amounts to a child-run protection racket. They take the trick or treat part quite seriously.

You wanna trade houses next year? My family just moved from a quiet neighborhood to a development. We went from begging the half dozen trick-or-treaters to take handfuls of candy to a bona fide kid parade with a 'take one' rule. I almost hit 2 different parties of trick-or-treaters while pulling out of my driveway to spend another $16 on candy.

Halloween's also some sort of booze cruise for the parents around here. There was at least one house giving out jello shots to the parents and some folks were walking around with beer in coozies. Made me regret not taking my sister trick-or-treating.
