What does Pogue Mahone mean?
Pogue Mahone is derived from póg mo thóin, irish gaelic for kiss my arse. This was the original name of the band. Their first single, "Dark Streets of London" was released under this name by Pogue Mahone Records. The single was then re-issued by Stiff records, with the band re-christened "The Pogues."

Sorta (I think the Irish plural noun would be pógaí or póig)* and yeah, it couldn't be that simple, it's Irish agus is breá liom í as.

* actually - póga (comment by MacRua)

I have been wondering this as well because the group "The Kissers" apparently play a lot of Pogues songs and I figure their naming convention lends itself to cover band status.
What kind of fuckery is this?
