folk music is music that represents the tradition or culture of the area. Aristotle, Philostratus and Lycurgus are examples: Aesop's fable "Athena" was sung in Greek festivals; Homer wrote a love poem about his mother-in law to be read by her children at their weddings; Sartre described an opera produced from sketches made during séances (this included some songs). Such representations can not only express emotions but also give life itself as well as help us understand our world on its own terms, making it possible for many ways we relate with each other and communicate information while feeling connected to something bigger than ourselves. \
