Donkey Riding, that takes me back all the way to my junior school years in nineteen hundred and frozen to death. In my class, circa 1963-64,we must have sung Donkey Riding at least once a week, from the good old battered, navy blue cover Oxford Song Book. That book contained songs with lyrics that i would be ashamed to sing today,it was a different World back then.Colonial and slavery themed songs, the 'n' word was frequently featured....Fast forward to the 21st century, listening to Great Big Sea live, opening almost every gig with.....Donkey Riding. Its included on the Great Big DVD, the Road Kill live album and on their third album. These days,i love to chill out listening to 17th and 18th century murder ballads!

He sang lead for most of a gig at Montreux as well, and I was struck by how good he was.

I was backstage prior to the band taking the stage at Dranouter, the set list changed several times.....after much arguing and bickering amongst what Pogues were present, they finally agreed on what they were about to perform.I took my place in the audience, with fingers and toes crossed, not knowing what to expect.....it was a shock and surprise to see Darryl step up to the mic and take the lead for 'Okay Time for Sayonara'.......he was very good, showed no sign of nerves.I was happy to uncross my fingers and toes and headed for the stage area where i not only saw the band up close,i also viewed it on a tv monitor.....Michelle Shocked stood behind me,and she was well impressed.....she asked me about Shane and would he ever return.......The Damage Limitation Pogues played what i thought was a pretty good set,not exactly vintage Pogues.....but they tried and worked incredibly hard, the fans loved it,job done.I travelled with the band back to Bruxelles airport, they were very upbeat about the performance, though i did hear Terry Woods saying it was one of the worst he had taken part in.August 1993.....it was so last century!

John Candy's vocal is spectacular.

That was ... well, it happened.

Your Canada Beatles are an acquired taste, eh.

They're all so... effortlessly awkward, that's the gift that whole SCTV crew had that, strangely, rocketed them all to stardom.

Anyway, this one is lodged in my head and I've been singing it to the cat all day.
