The Battle of Orgreave (2001)
https://youtu.be/3ncrWxnxLjg

A documentary about a re-enactment of one of the largest, and most pivotal, moments of the 1984/85 miner's strike.

In 2001, conceptual artist Jeremy Deller originated and set in motion the idea of a re-enactment of the event as an arts project, commissioned by British arts organisation Artangel, with the recreations scripted and staged by historical re-enactment events company EventPlan Limited. The event took place on 17 June 2001 and was filmed by film director Mike Figgis for a Channel 4 documentary. The re-enactment featured 800 people including 280 local residents, a number of people (police and pickets) from the original encounter and 520 re-enactors from various groups such as The Sealed Knot, Legio II Augusta (Romans), The Vikings (reenactment), War of the Roses and English Civil War Society, but with authentic 1980s clothing and techniques.

LARPing something from 1984 kinda breaks my brain just a little.

I'm a member of neither the LARP nor the re-enactment communities, but i like to imagine calling a re-enactor a LARPer is fighting words.

We watched Men (2022), written & directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation), starring Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear pulling a Peter Sellers and playing all the men save one. A creepy folk / psych horror that bends into some surrealism, we loved it. Expertly depicts the various different ways men can be creepy.

I'm sure it's no more a faux pas than calling Mascots "Furries" or Ren Faire participants "SCA Guys." I bet they're totally sanguine about it.

Also, I think C3PO is the best Cyberman.

Because like Ham Yoyo in his Aluminum Falcon - I know some moves.

Coherence - a 2013 American surreal science fiction psychological thriller. A group of friends at a dinner party deal with strange occurrences following the close passing of a comet. Ensemble cast starring Emily Foxler, Maury Sterling, Nicholas Brendon.

This was great, the acting & handheld camera work really capture the anxiety and confusion.

The Banshees of Inisherin. Again. Enjoyed it so much the first time we went back. It's a long time since I watched a film twice at the cinema. If Barry Keoghan doesn't get appropriately rewarded by the Oscars etc, it's a fix.

Triangle of Sadness, 2022 "dark comedy" written & directed by Ruben Östlund. A brilliant meditation on class and hierarchy while also indeed very funny. Every actor is fabulous and each character travels quite an arc.

M3GAN.

It was as good as Ex Machina, if less arty. A touch of Childs Play. Loved it.
