Good if not Classic Album Covers

So I'm genuinely curious about your selection criteria (and this could be said for nearly all of the covers you share):

What about this cover has made you say "Yes. YES! THIS one is Good, or Classic, of Good & Classic!"?

I know nothing of the artist featured so have no personal attachment to it. Instead I'm judging it based purely on what's presented. It appears to be two unrelated over-contrasted publicity shots placed on paste-up board and some Letraset rub-on font in title-caps. For all intents and purposes this album cover, from a design and photography point of view, is nearly indistinguishable from dozens of other ~1960s era albums I've seen in the 50¢ bins at Goodwill. So what am I missing? Is there something about this genre or this cover in particular, that I'm overlooking? Please educate me.

I've already basically answered this question from you before, so I really don't need to again, but what it boils down to is "different strokes for different folks." And I reckon a good single sleeve is as good of a record cover as an album cover. Anyway, after finding out that Diana Rigg had just passed away, I learned that Honor Blackman, who played John Steed/Patrick MacNee's previous cohort on the Avengers also died this year, and I remembered this reissue cover was a nice homage to the Avengers TV show and classic spare 60's graphics. It was a toss between this and the 12" version, which wouldn't be to your taste, either...



I'll also repeat that you can feel free to delete all non-album single or EP covers and any covers you deem not worthy of your high standards.

I know you're just here for the mobbing opportunity, but whatever. I think it's a nice homage to classic spare 60's graphics and perfect for an Avengers TV show themed cover, but since you are obviously an expert on this sort of thing, I'm sure you could come up with a good example of what should have been done instead. There are plenty of photos of the Avengers TV show online if you want to give it a try.

I already told him the first time he asked a nearly identical question that he can just delete any posts that are not up to his standards. And it's obvious that Mr. MacNee is dressed up as John Steed who is posing as a vicar to solve a case.

No. Hearing about Honor Blackman's death reminded me that Cherry Red reissued the single in what I thought was a "good if not classic" cover. And anyway, I think old records in the Goodwill's 50 cent bin are more likely to have good or classic covers than more expensive records, so that's where I'm coming from.

Meh. “Good” and “crap” are pretty subjective when it comes to art. There are also some design trends that have really not aged well (at least in my opinion). Hence the question I asked - “why, in your view, did this cover nail it? Why is it good?” (Yes, I’ve paraphrased myself. I’m too lazy to scroll up to see what I actually wrote)

No wonder hardly anyone new joins this forum and sticks around. But then I can't say I know how I lasted so long in all the smug clique-ishness here. Probably because it was easy to stay away for long periods and ignore posters when they weren't getting on my case for having unpopular opinions.

Humans arrogantly think they're the smartest creatures on earth, but they've allowed the earth to be destroyed beyond repair and they've managed to become the only ones who have to earn and pay money just to live. And most people don't realize that life on earth once was virtually a paradise before the devil and his minions came along and installed their predatory system. We've been lied to about nearly everything. What we'd now consider magic was once the norm, and all of those incredibly elaborate religious and government buildings are actually repurposed buildings (that used free atmospheric energy) from that former time of advanced technology and ethics, so we've regressed beyond belief as a species. That evidence is right in front of us, but somehow we're supposed to believe that everything's better now than it ever has been.
