I was just wondering if their is even the slightest chance that The Pogues would release a brand new album sometime in the not so distanced future. With the East and West Coast tours, their albums being remastered and widely available now in the US, and with their annual Christmas gigs, it seems that the popularity is really starting to rise. Again, I believe we all need a new Pogues record, especially considering the bland and morbid music scene of today.

Well, according to the interview with Spider in "Base.ad", a new album is looking like a real possibility.

Caukill posted the link in the "In the Media" section. I've copied it below:

He also said the same in last Friday's Manchester Evening News.

Fingers crossed!

I'm assuming this has been mentionned elsewhere, but in case it hasn't, Shane has confirmed the possibility. There is a message on his website:

"I'm better than ever, and so is everyone actually…. and that's old age…-laugh-…experience and the fact that I've never stopped playing live and all the rest of it, where the rest of them were doing other things I carried it on, but then it fell to bits gradually, you know what I mean ?…..and without Tommy the whole thing was over. But I will be doing my own stuff with various remnants of The Popes and there will probably be some new Pogues stuff coming out, but at the moment the only definite thing is that The Pogues are playing live..."

I read that, very promising and also this year marks a 1/4 of a century of The Pogues so may a album.

And by New Pogues Stuff, I think its more likely previously unreleased stuff from the 80s. Still great stuff, I'm sure, but given all of the posting from Spider and Philip about new material, I'd say truly brand new songs are unlikely. But maybe I'm crazy....

I'd love it if there was some new Pogues stuff, but that seems unlikely, as I presume the chance of any new stuff from Shane.
