What are the chances of any NEW pogues material

I cant see it happening . Shane is in no fit state to record new studio quality work . the Pogues without him, yes but thats not what the fans want so no music company would fund it

As great as the idea of a new Pogues records sounds, it's not that great if you think about it. The problem is that a new record would have to be as good as their most celebrated albums or else they would be ripped apart by the critics. And just because their live gigs are going so well, it doesn't mean that the magic would translate to the recording studio. just guessing of course.
What WOULD work however, would be the release of a live dvd of their reunion concerts. Maybe the Manchester show that was filmed? They could also use the December shows to record a live DVD. And there's also this boxset yet to be released....

Where have they used the word 'NEVER'??

I've asked a few of them myself since 2001 and the answer has always been a shrug and 'well, there's nothing on the cards.' Which is a long way from 'never.'

However, Terry said in a magazine last year that he feels the Pogues should record again. Spider said in the Xmas Mojo he wanted a new album. Victoria Clarke reported in the Sunday Independent a couple of weeks back that the bandmembers DID discuss a new album on way back from Japan (although to what conclusion?)

Whoever said that in the '90s hell would freeze over before Shane and the Pogues would reform was right on the money. Well, hell HAS frozen over. Perhaps, it could freeze a little more?

The other dinner guest, Shane MacGowan, was mulling over a possible new album with the Pogues.

We are 8 individuals, many of whom have other musical lives outside the Pogues. That's not to say we would never want to make some new music together, but right now, not enough people are sufficiently signed up to such a project.

In any event, Pogues music is a living, organic entity. Performing "The Old Main Drag" or "The Bottle Of Smoke" in 1987 is not the same experience as playing those songs with a further 20 years of life under one's belt.

I totally agree with the idea that 'Pogues music is a living, organic entity' which is why, timeless as the original body of work is, it would be wonderful to have some new material for the new millenium.

But all of the band would need to be up for this. As has been said before The Pogues are not just backing musicians for Shane. We just live in hope that everyone as a collective may feel the time is right some time soon. Perhaps another storming series of sold-out Christmas shows, or *crosses fingers tightly* a Christmas No. 1 may change a few minds...
