Are there any boolegs from the Pogue Mahone album/tour?

The Pogue Mahone album was released in 1995 (is that the one?) and then the Pogues were dropped pretty much straight away, without even much of a tour. Sad

I saw them on the Pogue Mahone tour at the Fillmore in San Francisco.

Overall the show had less energy than the Hell's Ditch tour had had at the Warfield, but it was still a great show. Oddly enough my most vivid memory of it is this little vignet at the back.

I had gone to get an overpriced Guinness. As I was enjoying it at the back I started watching the crowd. The Pogues had just begun performing "Love You 'Til The End," a mirror ball had dropped, the lights were spinning. Then I noticed this vaguely gnomish guy - wearing a cardigan and a silly cap, round belly, red cheeks, curly hair, thick beard with a reddish color. About ten seconds into the song he lifted his right hand in the classic "fuck you" salute to the stage and held it there until the song ended. Once the song ended he went back to nursing his beer.

Well McSwagger, first of all it was quite a few years ago and also quite a few pints consumed before the gig.

They played in a small club in Stockholm called Gino, it was half full.
They opend with Sunny side, sayonara, living in a world without her. Then they did (not in correct order), tosspint, bright lights, how come, oretown, amadie, tuesday morning, once upon a time, my babys gone, streams of whiskey, repeal, fiesta, i think they did hells ditch and turkish but i'm not sure.

In the beginning of the show a junkie type character jumped on stage and tried to strangle Spider from behind, Spider showed an elbow in his stomach and then security threw in back in to the crowd.

Also at the end of the gig, the crowd including me started shouting for Sally Mac, it was really embarrassing because they refused to play it. They all just stood and looked at each other for some time and then Jamie Clark started playing "Smoke on the water" on his guitar. Then they did some other song cant really remenber which one.

All in all it was ok, it was not the same thing anymore though. I often wonder why they did not continue and play music under a different name.

I don't speak for anyone. I do not claim to represent the band or to have any particular insight into their decisions. That said ...

I always had the impression that at least some of the original members were bored with the format, frustrated with the level of label support (or lack of) for both the Waiting for Herb and the Pogue Mahone releases, the incessant touring, and the slowly shrinking crowds and venues.

Ultimately I think the original members remaining (Spider, Adnrew, and an honorary mention for Daryl) after Jem's decision to leave decided that there was little point in calling themselves "The Pogues" any longer, and they all might-as-well see what else the world had to offer.

But this is largely speculation drawn from a lot of interviews given over the years. I speak for nobody, blah blah blah.

Yes, there is at least 1 boot available as I have one from, I think Wolverhamton where they play most, if not all the Pogue Mahone album. Get in touch if you want a copy. stephen@smcgirr.freeserve.co.uk

Hi Guest!

I think the two gigs you are refering to where on the "Waiting For Herb" tour, and yes those two dates were sold out. The place where absolutly packed both dates.
If i remember correctly there where only one gig in Stockholm on the "Pogue Mahone" tour.
