COLOGNE 1989

Post Mon May 11, 2009 1:27 pm

I have a tape fron November 1989 of THE POGUES live at the Sporthalle KOLN.Very good quality recording, was this originally broadcast on German Radio? The highlight of this show, which i was present, was the version of THE VELVET UNDERGROUNDS White Light,as well as some very amusing banter between Shane and Spider,as anyone else got a copy of this? 8)

I have a whole mess o' boots, but i've not got this one! Sounds great. Interestingly, i DO have a recording of the Pogues with Joe Strummer at the same venue, same month, 1991. Sound is crap tho.

A Belgian friend of mine told me about a tape he has of THE POGUES at the 1993 Dranouter Folk Festival, where a makeshift Pogues played ,what they themselves described as a collectors item of a gig.He promised me ages ago that he would send me a tape,i am still waiting Kas!I was there myself ,it was memorable for various reasons,no lead vocalist, though DARRYL,TERRY,JEM AND ANDREW all played a blinder.Much of their set consisted of instrumentals ,but despite the problems the huge audience loved it!Does anyone else have memories of this?

Nope, but i've got this video, post-Shane, Philip, Terry & James and with Spider absent:

19-Jul-96 Montreux Jazz Festival, Montreux, Switzerland 97 min. Televised concert

The Sunnyside Of The Street (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Sayonara (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Living In A World Without Her (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Boys From The County Hell (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Once Upon A Time (Jem Finer vocals) / Big City (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Tuesday Morning (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Tosspint (Jem Finer vocals) / Amadie (Andrew Ranken vocals) / Oretown (Jem Finer vocals) / Repeal Of The Licensing Laws / Thousands Are Sailing (James McNally vocals) / Pont Mirabeau (Jem Finer vocals) / When The Ship Comes In (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Tuesday Morning (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Turkish Song Of The Damned (Andrew Ranken vocals) / Dirty Old Town (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Star Of The County Down (Andrew Ranken vocals) / Streams Of Whiskey (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Bright Lights (Jem Finer vocals) / Love You 'Till The End (Darryl Hunt vocals) / Fiesta (Jem Finer vocals)

without Spider Stacy

The very last Pogues show and a surprisingly good one. The band finally called it a day after this gig.

The last POGUES GIG was at the venue above THE BOSTON ARMS ,Tufnell Park,on 28 july 1996,not the most fitting way to see off a great band.A contrast to the sell out venues at Brixton, thats life i suppose. :)
