Usually the answer is - probably not - depends on Shane writing material and the uncertainty that that might come to fruition - the quality of songs living up to the high standards already set by the early material etc ....
Why not record a CD of " Trad Irish Standards - ish " .... it would remove the obstacle of songwriting and musical arrangements to a degree ... for example , The Pogues take on tunes such as Spancil Hill / Courtin in the Kitchen / The Ballad of St.Anne's Reel to name just three out of hundreds of possibilities - even The Long Black Veil would sound great .
I think a similar approach worked well for Damien Dempsey earlier this year with The Rocky Road CD - also Sinead O' Conner with Sean Nos Nua - even Bruce Springsteen applied similar idea to the Seeger Sessions ... Just an idea i thought i would mention Philip , im sure one of many crossing your path .. thanks .

A new Pogues album that did not include a reasonable sample of newly-written songs, in particular new songs by Shane, would be regarded with deep suspicion by fans and critics alike, and I can't say I'd blame them.

cilltuama wrote:Well said RevRob .... The lack of " believable " covers of Pogues tunes definitely rings true ... some are close but just not there ... thanks for your $0.02 .

Damien Dempsey's version of "Rainy Night..." on the album you mentioned above... well, I have to admit to having something of a soft spot for young Damo, but his "Rainy Night..." is absolutely dire.
