Pogues Tribute Album

Post Thu Jun 04, 2009 4:24 pm

While the world waits for a new POGUES album, surely a tribute album would suffice till the real thing comes along.Mojo and Uncut are always putting out compliation/tribute albums.Artists such as Christy Moore,Peter Case,June Tabor/Oysterband,Pauline Scanlan,Ronan Keating,Shanneygannock,to name but a few, have all done cover versions of POGUES material and there are plenty more besides.Maybe one or two previously unreleased and hey presto!we have the first ever POGUES tribute album, any ideas people? :)

Is Kolly Kibber a dirty pseudonym?

Jesus Christ, what a shite album that would be. God forbid anyone gathers that bunch together and puts it out under our name. I mean, why would you take a ronan keating version over a pogues one? Just listen to the originals instead. Or go and find some new music. Just stop sticking us in some cod-Irish ghetto with people we have nothing in common with.

Oh,and there's not going to be another Pogues album, ever. None of us has the inclination.

That sucks to hear so bluntly. But bluntly might be the only way most of us would listen.

Although I think everyone realizes there will never be another Rum or IISFFG, my opinion is that it doesn't have to be a masterpiece to be a goddamn great and worthwhile endeavor. I guess I understand that you guys all have your own sets of expectations and rewards to reap from any efforts you put into anything.

At least you guys are touring. See you'se in the fall.

Well said SPIDER!Though i have to say there are some interesting POGUES covers,Ronan Keatings version of FAIRYTALE is NOT one of them, just about the worst cover version imaginable. He put out a single afew years ago which i bought[sad i know]only because the brilliant KATE RUSBY sang on it.A pity about no new POGUES stuff ,but thats ok,we can still see them live. :D

Why do folk keep going on about a new album ?
lets face it shanes voice isn't half as good as back in the 80s is it ?
also i think 7 albums (with bonus tracks) a 5 cd box set and lots of bootlegs is alot of music.

For the uneducated out there Kolly Kibber was a character in the Graham Greene novel Brighton Rock. The name does sound like a porn star or something equally sleazy!A new POGUES album ?Struth lads and lasses, give the band a break ,LIVE POGUES is better then NO POGUES at all.So when are you going to drag your talented asses Down Under again? :)

Christie Moore's live 'tribute to Shane' version is beautiful.
