Thanateros - Dirty old town

One of my favourite bands, Thanateros, is finally releasing a new single, and it is their brilliant version of Dirty old town! The band has been playing it live the last two years, and it is indeed the best version of this song that I have ever heard. Even after having seen the Pogues playing it live...

If there are any Germans out there, go to SATURN on Monday 4/4 and pick it up! I promise that you won't be disappointed. For non-Germans, or lazy ones like me, Amazon.de has started taking pre-orders.

The Thanaterösse have released two albums so far, the third one will be released 26/04. The second and the third albums are very folky, but still hard enough to justify being called metal. They play a mix of own songs, where the lyrics are inspired by shamanism and paganism, and traditionals. There are some short samples available at their site, under discography. Listen to Gayatri!

Ok, done promoting for now :)

Wait, yes there are, but not for Dirty Old Town.
Too bad.

Because it's not released yet... it should be up in not too long.

After a lot of messing about, the samples are now online at Amazon.de

Give it a listen :)

Thanks a lot for posting the link Maija! :D Great to hear the song. Interesting version – but I somewhat miss the strong atmosphere there, the captivating mixture of nostalgia and anger. They are undoubtedly good musicians, but their rendition seems to lack earnestness – hard to imagine them waiting in the night by that factory wall. ;) Only my subjective opinion, of course. Moreover it’s difficult (and probably not very fair) to judge from a short sample. Anyway, Pogues and Dubliners versions still remain my favourites.

@Zuzana: I will admit to prefering it live, for exactly the atmospheric issues that you mentioned there. Plus, the sound quality at amazon is horrible :/
