As with all genres, there's some good that came from it and a lot of crap.

A lot of people dismiss all country as crap, but I think you'll recognize that Johny Cash is quite good.

A lot of people dismiss punk as crap, but I think you'll recognize that Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Clash are all quite good.

Same goes for new wave, clasical, opera, pop, etc. If you really "just love music" as much as you claim to then you should not be so quick to completely dismiss an entire genre (or genres).

but newwave brings about some great memories----i thought i was so cool back then with my penny loafers and pink Le TiGRE polo shirt with FLOCK OF SEAGULLS hair. and 80's much cooler than 70's thats for sure. i love all that 80's newwave no matter how cheesey--except for maybe Kagagoogoo.synthesiser music kinda cool. AHA my favorite though. by the way--Aha playing Cardiff the night b4 the Pogues.

That´s definitely true.
Well, Johnny Cash...we had a brilliant english teacher (from California though) who brought it to us. And because of his charm we started to like it. And so I like it:-)

With punk I have to agree as well. In some things as with metal (I am constantly arguing with one of my she-friends about this - I say most of metal is crap and she says I am wrong and whole punk is crap. But she didn´t listen to the Clash yet). In both genres there is imho 95% utter crap - both types of bands are trying to get the best way how to throw up at the microphone along with smashing some guitars. But still there are some good metal bands.
And punk? I like only the Clash, but I like them a lot (about the same level as the Pogues-i.e.far from rest of bands I know). I like their lyrics, their music...thing which I missed sometimes in the Pogues (the lyrics part). And some sort of intelectuallity in them (at least in Joe). Now in our country it is strongly divided - punks who are very intelligent, just like punk culture and there is second group - skinheads, pimps, drunkards and junkies.
And most of the people consider second group to be "da ril punk boyz"
