:) Hey Dan! Nah, I've been... preoccupied from the last few years, so I hadn't really noticed bands and stuff playing in Sydney etc. I live up in billygoat country, away from mankind... just joshing. I've been looking after my family a bit more at-home-ishly since my wife had an accident a few years back now. So little things like the cycle of fashion, say, or new young bands has kinda passed me by.... but The Pogues, well now, that's a different kettle o' fish, matey, yaarrrr! If DKM come out soon I'll go see 'em for curiositys' sake. As an old fart, I must watch me hearing sonny', eh? What's that?

I'm not sure what constitutes a celtic band. but i've heard some fine roots music come out of australia. The aforementioned Weddings Parties Anything, Roaring Jack, The Remains and a cracking all girl country tinged band called GIT are good places to start, i'm sure Fintan can tell you more.

I believe most Australians have Irish (rather than UK) ancestry. Someone told me 80% of Australians have Irish ancestory, though I don't know how accurate that is.

Hi NYPiper79 - Hi Trashcity.
On a tangential reference -
:arrow:Celtic Festival This happens annualy about 2 hours away from my birth town. Some great acts appear there. Mainly what you'd call folk, not really rock.

I also refer the Committee's attention to:
:arrow:The Borderers

I shall return with more resources after dinner, providing I do not fall prey to 'post-prandial lassitude' or Old-Man-Fall-Asleep-On-Lounge-In-Front-Of-Telly-itis. Back soon.

The most recent analysis indicates a figure closer to 30 %. Recent immigration over the past 20 years has drastically rebalanced the figure. And it's been a great cultural enrichment of this nation too, may I say. Vive la difference!

 A slightly exhausting and semi-exhaustive catalog of CDs by Australian artists playing music of Celtic origins. This is the web-store of Celtic Southern Cross. This has been a spontaneous unpaid endorsement.
Australian Celtic Music Recordings
Pay particular attention to the works of:
-The Fagans.
-The late, great Declan Affley.
-Trouble In The Kitchen.
-Martin Doherty.
-Us Not Them.

Hope this helps. Slán.

Haha - yeah, know what you mean - I'm out of the touring loop now - recently moved to Mission Beach (fucking great timing considering Larry ) - but did you know Flogging Molly are touring with some shitty emo band next month? I'm flying down to Brissie for that one - used to do reviews for the street press down there, so they've organised me a freebie! :D It'll cost me several hundred to fly down for it, but I need a live music fix! Do you go on any Aussie music forums Fintan?
