Yea it is. They are combining Axis and Avalon. I hate going to Lansdowne for shows anyways but now there isnt even going to be a decent place to have shows. As much as I didnt like Axis it was sizable enough for popular bands but still have a semi-intimate setting. And Avalon allowed for 'bigger' acts to play a club date.

Any clue as to where the "mid range" acts are going to land now? I asked Darkbuster members if they knew what the Murphs may do & they had no idea. This really puts "our" kind of music in a bad place in one of the best cities in the world for breeding it.

Murphy will probably move on up but for acts like the Street Dogs I don't know. It really sucks. On top of the new rules about ending 18+ shows by 11 Boston is really ruining a great thing

Bring back the Rat.
That was the greatest bar in Boston history. $1 cans of Carling Black Label were a dream come true night after night, after night, after night.

Cheers for that review Orrok61, I have seen them a few times, last time when they came to England was a year to the day almost so have got withdrawl symptons! watching the dvd on large screen or belting out their cd's will have to do till future date, but reading your report and other guys comments as well as odd new clips on youtube of recent gigs help the cravings, but you cant replace the real thing. So CHEERS you all....

I'm too young to remember the Rat but have heard nothing but great things about it. Even if its 90% nostalgia it must have been an amazing place.

Much like CBGB's here in NY,I'm sure.Small, smelly & full of great music. They're an endangered species, those great clubs.Although Avalon was alot larger, add it to the list of extinct punk rock venues.

A lot of bands that would have played Axis are now playing at Harper's Ferry in Allston, or the Middle East in Cambridge. & for those that would play Avalon alot are going to the Roxy. Thats what I've noticed anyway.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the lamb and a donkey -- I just looked at the DKM site at their tour line-up. What a fucking great set of shows they have lined up out west. Here's hoping they do something like it on the East Coast, after.
What kind of fuckery is this?
