The Godiva three day music festival starts in Coventry tonight.
Some of the high lights should be The Enemy, Superfurryanimals and the one and only Sean Cannon who headlines and ends the festival on Sunday evening.

Started out at 6 in the local pub, the burnt post, Young Moose was on his school camp, water proofs were duly worn as it was pissing down. However this gave me and Mrs Moose the chance to go out for the night, hence the 6 o'clock start in the BP.
Moderate??!!!! amounts of alcohol were consumed and the decision was taken to go to the godiva festival which is a ten minute walk away. Off we trotted and the clouds openned ,our thoughts of young Moose camping in this weather gave us some concern.....untill we reached the beer tent. the young fella is made of sturner stuff.
The first band we saw were very good however we do not know what they were called and although they played their instruments very well, we listenend to 3 songs and none of them sang, very peculiar. our next visit found us in the reggae tent with a local band blasting out some excellent reggae sounds, we enjoyed this very much as did many others including modern skin heads who were approximately 18 years old.
Finally we found our selves at the main event of the evening which was...... can you believe it the Human League....Oh how them 80's memories came flooding back.
Never being a huge fan of " New romantics" credit where itis due they done a wonderful gig which was well appreciated by all there.
By this time the heavens had well and truely opened and it was time to return to the Burnt Post.
Young Moose was still camping out, Mr and Mrs Moose were well and truely inebriated and really looking forward to Saturdays line up....and more blog will follow if you guys want to read it.

Day 2

Hi Eric....you have lost me, still never mind.
Woke up with the sound of thunder in my ears, opened the curtains and the sun was shinning brightly???????? MRS MOOSE WHERE ARE THE ASPRINS? Nothing stirred from under the duvet.
A quick look at the clock told me that it was time to get little moose from his watery tent and with a quick cup of tea off we went.
The boy was less than glad to see us as he was in the middle of playing the drums, alas he had a drama class to attend and i had an appointment with a full english breakfast!
During the breakfast i had a horrible flash back which i pressumed was a distant memory of last nights dream....i was standing in an open field in the rain singing "Don't you want me baby" at the top of my voice.
Mrs moose broke my thoughts with " Human league were good last night!!!!!!!
Four hours later and after an extremely long period of prying young moose away from "Doctor Who all day bonanza on uk drama tv" we once again headed for the festival, this time to see a new and very exciting band from coventry called " The Enemy" Reputedly to be the best band from cov since the Specials.
We arrived two hours before they were due on and immediately knew that the chances of getting in the tent were remote to say the least.
To keep the young fella happy we visited the fair ground and after some exhilerating rides in which i nearly renewed my acquaintence with my breakfast we headed back to the main tent.
After 5 minutes "the enemy" came on stage, so we were told because we could get no where near the damn thing, so we listened outside and although the sound did not travel that well everyone was dancing and singing.
THIS IS NOT A BIASED VIEW, THESE 3 LADS ARE AWESOME AND THEIR ALBUM "WE LIVE AND DIE IN THESE TOWNS" IS GOING TO BE MASSIVE.

Day 3

I was so impressed with the enemy i have bought the album.
After a nice Sunday roast in the Burnt post, i once again made my way to the park, as normal the English summer was in full swing and the rain was coming down in stair rods.
Today i was off to see Sean Cannon from the Dubliners who resides in our fair city.
Mrs and young moose had alternative plans so i headed off alone, untill a suprise phone call from brother moose asked me to meet him in the beer tent...how could i refuse.
The thousands of the previous day were sadly lacking and the park was starting to resemble the mud flats of Glastonbury, but the good news was that we could squelch our way to an empty bar and to a relatively empty tent that was to be the home of Sean Cannon for 45 mins.
Sean came on stage and greeted a damp and soggy crowd with his usual Galway humour and was soon enthralling us with such classics as "black velvet band" etc...i hoped that he might do " a pair of brown eyes" which i have seen him do before but alas he did not.
He finished his slot with a great rendition of "Whisky in the jar" and followed this up with a full audience participation of "Molly Malone" it was a great gig and a fitting end to a truely great festival.

I hope that you guys may have enjoyed my ramblings and some of the things that i have shared with you, if not, what the hell.
To finish i would just like to say that the enemy are a young and very exciting band who i think will go very far, and as for the festival itself. It is fantastic.
The Godiva festival is staged every year and it is free to enter.
Each year it is getting bigger and better and the quality of the bands of all genres is improving year on year.
I was fortunate to chat with people who had come from various parts of the country, which amazed me, so i say to you if you get the chance and want to see and hear all types of music, for free, please give it a go next year

ps
bring your wellies

Cheers, moose!
Good to read. 8)

Sounds like a good festival. I've been in Cov a few times recently, and am sort of sorry I missed this. Just a little concerned about what might be the dress code at the Godiva Festival, though...

Great report, Moose! I've just ordered The Enemy album off Play.com -- like the sound of the samples.
