some traditional songs can still be really good (or even better than traditional versions) when covered by a punk band (the real mckenzies 'loch lomond', dropkick murphys 'fields of athenry', the devil's advocates 'the town i loved so well', etc.) but some can only be fucked up. dirty old town is one of them.

I get real horny listening to Fields of Athenry by the dropkick murphys. Defitinitly the best version.

In Germany one can also use "geil" aka horny in a positive meaning, but not as a verb, i.e. something like "this song really turns me on". As an adjective it works pretty well; "horny song" (geiles Lied).

The Pogues sind geil ;-)

i have that 7" unfortunately though, my record player is busted, so i cant listen to it (I have never heard the other two tracks on it)

Yeah I got that one too (pretty rare I think). The other two songs are 'I'm Shipping Up To Boston' - which is also on Give 'Em The Boot 4 - and a live cover of Johnny Cash' 'If I Were A Carpenter'.
