Finally got hold of Roddy Woomble's solo album today, brilliant it is, and I have to say the track "Whiskeytown" is an absolute stomper of Celtic delights any self-respecting Pogues fan should adore. I do anyway. I recommend it. Seek it out.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've been meaning to get hold of this for a while. Saw Mr Woomble doing a bit of busking at a festival I was at last summer, and it sounded really good. Always had a soft spot for Idlewild too.

Yeah I like Idlewild as well, and a couple of tracks on the solo album ("My Secret Is My Silence") do sound just like Idlewild, but it makes for a nice eclectic album. Kate Rusby's on about 7 tracks as well (and it's on her own label - Pure Records).

...another good reason for getting the album. Roddy turned up on Kate's last album too.

I've had this album for a few months, now, and it's still regularly on my stereo. Whiskeyface is, indeed, a top folky stomp, and one of the standout tracks on a disc full of them.

That said, I'm really looking forward to Roddy getting back with the rest of Idlewild for the new album and tour later this year.

Ms Rusby has some great albums. Possibly my favourite, or at least the one that gets most played, is Hourglass, from 1997. After that, I think I most often listen to Underneath The Stars, and the most recent album, The Girl Who Couldn't Fly. It's all lovely stuff.

She also has a pretty ace live DVD, Live from Leeds, released last year. And if you ever get the chance to see her perform live, don't miss it!

Just bought Hourglass from I-Tunes so I will have a listen after lunch and report back. Sleepless and the Girl Who Could'nt Fly are there as well.

I have had a listen to Hourglass and it is a great album. I will have to listen to it a few more times but I really like As I Roved OUt, A Rose in April and Drowned Lovers. Great Stuff.

Glad you like it, Bud. Yep, those are great tracks, and there are plenty more on there. Different songs for different moods, I think, but also off that album I love "Annan Waters", brilliant song. Oh, and it's a terrific version of "Bold Riley"...

I'll go on and on about Ms Rusby if I'm given the chance. And if you do ever get the chance to see her, she's amazing live, and surprisingly funny.

Yeah, I like both of those as well, especially Bold Riley Can't say there is a song I don't like yet.

Great version of that song! As Firehazard says, Kate R is fantastic live -- she's very funny. Last time I saw her, I preferred the patter to the music at times

The albums are good, and she's talented at what she does. But they're a wee bit samey imo. But then trad folk's not my absolute favourite.

I'm not sure she's really "trad" folk, I mean yeah she is obviously in that ballpark, but some of the arrangements are fairly contemporary.

And may I also add myself to the list of people recommending "The Girl Who Couldn't Fly", which is a fantastic album by anyone's standards.
