Watched The Last Waltz again last night and it struck me that they remind me of the Pogues in several ways. I'm wondering if the Pogues might have been influenced in any way by them. Multi-instrumentalists, mixing folk with rock, doing things their own way (not selling out), etc...

Anyway, what phenomenal music.

Sure, the Band were The Business. Outsiders too, Canadians in their case, London-Irish in ours.

I watched that, as well man. If you haven't seen the Classic Albums over their self-titled album, check it out. I love The Band.

I did see it. I'm liking that whole series.

Yeah, it's steadily become my favorite show. I'm double-majoring, one of which in Audio Engineering, so it's cool to watch them take the masters through and explain what was done per individual tracks.

I remember watching that when it was originally broadcast and thinking that I should check them out but havenever got round to it. Might have to make some online purchases now

I can see some comparisons, The Band were not afraid to push the envelope.
The one thing they never offered me personally was the untamed piss 'n vinegar of the Pogues. But listenening to Levon Helm sing "the night they drove old Dixie down" gives me goosebumps.
