Yes, hasn't it been a dead hulk floating in the inky seas of the internets since about 1999? Seems like the most recent tour date listed was on the Mule Variations tour.

Ah, THAT was a fine outing.

I saw him in '86 and '99. I guess next time'll be 2012.

2012. Isn't that when the Mayans thought the world would end? Seems like a logical time for Tom to tour. The Mayan End Times Tour.

Tom said he hates to tour. He once said he'd like to have a shed with a tin roof and some folding chairs in Branson, MO, and he'd just be in there playing all the time and you could stop in when you were in town. Sorta like Celine Dion.

Anti- Records has announced that Tom Waits will perform three songs at an LA benefit on January 22nd. I found this great quote at their website, under Current News:

Tom Waits, who seldom tours, last performed in LA at a benefit for Music Cares in 2006. Will this upcoming date sway him to get back on the road? Waits responded, "Somehow we return like the salmon to perform in important towns like Nimrod, Minnesota; Square Butt, Montana; Peculiar, Missouri; or Diagonal, Iowa. We just may be coming to a theatre near you."

FUCK.

The first time in my entire life that Tom Waits goes on tour and I live within hundreds of miles of him (indeed, it's only a half-hour drive), tickets are $400.

Damn it damn it damn it. Damn it.

Founded in 1974, Bet Tzedek Legal Services today is one of the nation's most respected poverty law firms, with a stated mission of ensuring "equal justice for all." Each year the organization serves more than 10,000 elderly, indigent and disabled Los Angeles-area residents of all racial and religious backgrounds with critical legal needs, who otherwise would be without access to representation. Clients are represented by a dedicated staff of 62 and more than 600 active volunteers, who last year committed 40,000-plus hours of service.

Buy a ticket, you might qualify for help with the law firm that's he's doing the benefit for

Tom Waits announces summer tour plans
from Paste Magazine
Writer: Christina Hansen
News, Published online on 05 Mar 2008

Tom Waits, he of the gravel voice and source material for an upcoming Scarlett Johansson cover album, is preparing for a tour this summer, his camp confirmed this week.

But don’t rush out to your local ticket office just yet. Waits and his management team are still piecing the tour schedule together, so no dates or cities have been announced. Organizers could only confirm that the tour would hit both the U.S. and Europe.

Waits’ fans certainly have reason to be excited, as his tours have been few and far between lately. His last outing was an eight-date U.S. tour two years ago in support of his three-disc album Orphans.

This is great news for all of you. For me, on the other hand, it will be good news only if it starts before mid-June. After that I'll be back in Afghanistan until Thanksgiving. :)

Not again! :( Well, at least you'll avoid the DC summer heat.

Yes, and it also allows my daughter to take an actual summer vacation with mom and travel around to relatives, so its not bad at all. Plus, the aroma of the cesspool of Forward Operating Base Kandahar in the summer heat is not to be missed!

Okay, what the hell happened with this supposed summer tour? Pitchfork makes it sound like it's official and now we've got zero further updates almost a month later.

Waits Close To Confirming Dublin Dates

Numerous venues rumoured for Waits' in promoters bidding war

Hot Press has learned that rival promoters have been furiously bidding to bring legendary American singer Tom Waits to Dublin this summer.

A number of different options have been explored, including a brace of outdoor shows in a limited capacity city centre venue. However, Hot Press understands that the artist may well decide to do the shows in a marquee – a move that would sync neatly with the circus-cum-vaudeville aspect of his persona.

The likely dates for what would be a hugely anticipated return to Ireland for the California-based singer and actor are at the end of July and the beginning of August. It’ll be interesting to see what tickets will cost, given that when Waits was rumoured to be playing the Olympia a few years back, the expected asking price was e150. It is, notwithstanding the cost, likely to be one of the hottest tickets of the year.

After a quiet musical 2007, the 58-year-old kicked the New Year off with a guest appearance at an LA fundraiser for a poverty law centre.

He’s also playing Mr. Nick in the Terry Gilliam film that Heath Ledger was working on at the time of his death, The Imagination Of Doctor Parnassus.

After receiving the green light from Ledger’s family to finish the movie, Gilliam hopes to have it in the cinemas early in ‘09.
