What a delightfully bonkers press conference, only US tour dates announced so far but he mentioned European dates are to be announced (when they have worked out the appropriate constellation).

Press conference can be viewed here:

i LOVE that "press" conference! this is great news. Did you pick up that he said the European tour will take him from Spain to DUBLIN?! this will be Waits 1st show in Dublin in 20 years or so i believe. No doubt Shane and Mr. Chevron will attend this gig if they're s not on tour in japan/oz at that stage.
I'm planning on making the trek to Columbus,Ohio to see him......jaysis cant wait(s)!(Pun intended!)_

I wish he was playing NY. the Anti records blogger said patience to me after I complained haha. SO maybe they aren't done plotting out the tour for the US? maybe thats just the first half of it?

I still might fly down to Atlanta to see him.

That's what I thought about his last tour...the one our own dear old auntie Esther saw  and which I am still quite jealous about.

Both times I've seen Tom have been in NYC...I would like to continue the tradition.

Last time ('99) there was a pub down the street from the Beacon with a sign out front that said "Last Bar Before Tom Waits". It was too crowded, though, so we sat hunched over on the curb drinking Old Grandad out of a paper sack. Somehow it seemed more apropos.

Hmmm...The last time I saw Tom Waits was in...um...hmmm...oh, yeah...Chicago! 2006 I think it was. (Alright. It was the ONLY time I saw Tom Waits.)

I am thrilled about the possiblity of seeing him in St. Louis. If I can be one of the fortunate ones to get tickets, I'll be there!

From Anti- Records News:

"Tom Waits On-Sale Information
Wednesday May 7, 2008

"GLITTER AND DOOM" THE TOM WAITS TOUR:

HITTING CITIES HE'S RARELY OR NEVER PLAYED IN HIS FOUR DECADE CAREER, BEGINNING JUNE 17 IN PHOENIX, ENDING IN ATLANTA ON JULY 5

Eccentric musical shaman and rara avis TOM WAITS has decided to take his show to some of the summer's hottest regions. The Grammy-winning artist will begin his "Glitter and Doom" tour in Phoenix at the Orpheum Theatre on June 17 and finish in Atlanta on July 5 at the Fox Theatre. Tickets for his previous "Orphans" tour in 2006 sold out in minutes.

When questioned about the summer inferno choice, Waits responded, "We're going to the deep south where they still love a man who wears red pants and they make him feel welcome."

Waits will be touring with longtime musical ally Larry Taylor (bass), Omar Torrez (guitar), Patrick Warren (keyboards), Casey Waits (drums and percussion) and as yet named reed player; performing hollers, mambos and rhumbas.

Of his last tour, critics were unanimous: The Chicago Tribune, "After two hours, Waits' reprised 'Time,' a beautiful song, even in a land where it's raining hammers and nails. Waits' voice sounded like that hard rain. Even at its most tender, it was a gruff, unrelenting force of nature." The Flint Journal (MI), "Waits took the eager capacity crowd on a journey of Wagnerian proportions... I hope we don't have to wait another 19 years to sip from that cup again." The Tennessean, "(Ryman Auditorium) Even back in the ancient, pre-country days when the holy structure was an actual church, it's hard to imagine a more passionate sermonizer gracing the boards than Waits."

Anti Records recently launched tomwaits.com with the release of the press conference clip for the "Glitter and Doom" tour. The site will have all tour info, news, photos and updates with a detailed explanation of the ticket policy. Waits' press conference is currently the #1 featured video on YouTube.com with over 90,000 views in less than 72 hours.

As on his last tour, Waits' U.S. booking agent and longtime tour director, Stuart Ross, has spent a great deal of effort to fight ticket scalpers. Along with Ticketmaster, he has worked out a plan he believes will make sure every fan pays face value (plus normal service and handling fees) for the tickets purchased for the "Glitter and Doom" tour.

Tickets for all markets are due to go on sale Friday, May 16th. Check local venues and Ticketmaster for specific start times. Tickets will be available via the internet and by phone.

In other Waits news, unrelated to the tour, WAITS has finished filming The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, a romantic fantasy adventure starring Heath Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law, Vern Troyer and Lily Cole with renowned director Terry Gilliam (Time Bandits, Brazil, Twelve Monkeys, Brothers Grimm).

Attention Philip: Tom Waits in Dublin

Hotpress.com can now confirm that Tom Waits will play two Irish dates this summer, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.

As forecast in the last issue of Hot Press, Tom Waits is playing July 30 and 31 shows in a specially designed marquee in the Phoenix Park.

Word is that it’ll compliment the title of Waits’ new album – possibly Glitter And Doom – which is due through Anti- during the summer.

The Californian was offered a significantly higher fee to appear outdoors, but it seems that the quality of the experience was paramount.

Hot Press understands that Waits’ decision to go the tent route was inspired by the positive feedback he’s heard from fellow artists who’ve played Cork Live At The Marquee – where, incidentally, Tommy Tiernan is now playing another date on Saturday July 5.

“He’s somebody we’ve wanted to bring over for years, so I’m thrilled,” enthuses Aiken Promotions’ Peter Aiken.

See hotpress.com for ticket details.

I also saw an unconfirmed rumor that the US dates are only the first leg, and that East Coast (Philly, New York) dates will follow.

Oh, I am truly sorry, dublinrambler. Please don't give up, though! Through my search of Tom Waits fans websites I have learned that in 2006, shows that were supposedly sold out had tickets available at a later time. Were I you, I'd check back off and on.

Now, pardon me for this but...
WE GOT TICKETS FOR THE ST. LOUIS SHOW!!
