Perhaps it's my computer and the interwebs conspiring against me. It wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks for the youtube link, DzM. 8)

Robert Wilson, Tom Waits & William S. Burroughs - The Black Rider (1992)
Duration: 136'13"

This is a TVRip of the Austrian broadcast of the original Black Rider musical, performed in 1990 as part of the Wiener Festwochen. There is a 7-minute introduction in German, and the dialogue and music is in both German and English.

I saw the November Theatre's production of The Black Rider in Vancouver in 2008, and was so impressed, I went back a few nights later to see it again. Mesmerizing.

I am looking forward to some quality time to watch this performance...

... and again by Jason Schneider in !*@# magazine:

My favourite quote, on writing a new batch of songs:

"The first couple of songs are always the hardest and serve as icebreakers. Once the ice is broken, you go into the freezing water and float downstream. Then when you're out of breath, you realize you're half a mile from the hole you went in, and you drown in front of a class of elementary school kids."

Word reaches me from a movie location about Martin McDonagh, Tom Waits, a rabbit and a "cramped house in Los Angeles". I think it may well mean that Mr Waits has his Equity card out again.

This new album demands to be toured. These songs need to breathe on the road like the best songs from Orphans did. Lord knows why he's so erratic about touring, but I guess if anyone's allowed to be erratic, it's Tom Waits.

This is one of those poems I "read" in several voices, but Waits' version seems so right...
