Flogging Molly's new album

I just picked this up the other day. Basically its a rehash of some of the older material played live and acoustic sets. The real attraction is the DVD, featuring live performances by the band and an insight into the band's history. The thing that pissed me off the most is all the retards who actually believe that Flogging Molly is the only band playing this kind of music. Most people in US have no idea that the Pogues started this music and did so much better. In fact Dave King comes off as a second-rate Shane MacGowan in most interviews with his bandmates, who clearly have no knowledge of Irish music chiming in. The worst are the fans, that all have been duped by Flogging Molly, who honestly believe they started this music. I've myself have turned die-hard Flogging Molly fans onto the Pogues, and they all became fans for life. Now it doesn't mean I hate Flogging, they still have some great songs and they put on one hell of live show, but they still just come off as Pogues rip-offs.

Nah knowing the band they definitely know where their roots are. I love the documentary because it really shows how the band is. They really are one of the nicest bands around and they always take time to chat to you.

all bands ripp off others. if they didnt every band would be playing a totaly unique sound.

I haven't seen the documentary, but I really enjoy the audio CD, especially the acoustic versions of older songs. I think it's a bit pointless to endlessly speculate if a band is a rip-off or if the members realize where their roots are - I believe the key thing is the material itself, whether it's enjoable and worth listening too. Let the music speak for itself.

pete seeger's father said "plagerism is basic to all culture". woody guthrie once said of another singer "oh, he just steals from me. me, i steal from everybody!"

and i don't think it's fair to say flogging molly are just a pogues rip-off... their sound is quite different, many songs very electric-guitar driven. i like 'em, tho dave king is no shane macgowan, lyrically (but then, i've never heard him claim it). and really, you can't blame the band if their fans havn't sussed out that there are/were other bands doing similar things. now, if dave king goes around claiming he's invented something new, that's another story. but i've not heard that from him.

just gave the new album a listen while driving (havn't seen the film) and i enjoyed it. good driving tunes, that band.

ill be seeing flogging molly at leeds festivalin a few weeks. ive only heard a few songs. does anybody know what songs they have usually on their setlist so i can aquire them? what are their best/most popular songs etc etc? can anyone help me out? cheersss

mind you, in my case it was "good driving till you kill your transmission" tunes, which maybe means they're NOT good driving tunes at all!

(i suppose i should blame the mountain. apparently the duffey lake road - a mountain pass just outside of pemberton, in lillooet territtory - the british columbia mountains in canada - has finished off many a car, including 2 more while i was waiting at the mechanics over the course of 2 hours. so i guess i can't blame flogging molly).
