The Medusa Fora

This lot are folking ace! Stumbled across them on Limewire tryna downlaod some Charlie & The Bhoys and they're really good. They're a Scottish folk band (due I think) but they sound quite American in many of the songs.

lol true (although in all honesty I don't like the Pogues version of County Down - the best I've heard is Van Morisson's).

The interesting thing is that neither of those songs try to imitate The Pogues - DOT is with an acoustic guitar and the singing is different for instace. Actually I havn't heard any other version that uses the harmonica which is a shame because I think it sounds fantastic and whenever I see/hear a harmonica I think of Shane belting out the first few lines. IMO nobody will top The Pogues' version, including Ewan MacColl.

The Dubliner's Dirty Old Town is great, but I don't like Ewan MacColl's version.

Now that I think about it, has Shane or the Pogues ever done a traditional song that the Dubliners didn't do first?

Ah, good call.

I own a few of their cds and they don't get played quite as much as they should. Not a bad band at all. Paddy rock radio I believe plays a bit of their stuff. Worth checking out.
