There remain only two good covers of FoNY - the spoken word version and the No Use For A Name version, because they both do something new with the song. To which I would probably add Brendan Bowyer and Aisling Bowyer's version, although that sticks more closely to our blueprint. And I don't get paid royalties on any of these versions either.

What about the Christy Moore version? I think thats pretty decent, although what he did with it is what almost everyone else whos covered it since has done, only he did it better.

His live version on Live At The Point is cracking, and the introductory story is dead funny.

Bottle Of Smoke are from my neck of the woods. My mates went to see them a couple of weeks ago and said they were top. I couldn't make it but I'll be trying to get to the next one.

The single, out on March 17, will be available as an CD, standard seven-inch single and a seven-inch picture disc.

The standard seven-inch format will feature a cover of 'Gabrielle', originally released by Shane MacGowan’s first band, The Nipple Erectors.

I think this is pretty good and charismatic rendition: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=I6DjVKxkwPI

And it´s not 105th wannabepogues sound.

This is a Catalan (from Catalonia) cover, all sang in Catalan language, and I think it is entirely an exact translation (from English to Catalan) of the original lyrics, phrase by phrase.

According to the music, there is a first slow acoustic part (near to Christy Mooore's one, but maybe a little bit slower). And then, the second part is a mixture of guitars with an accordeon and a flute/whistle (and something like a mandolin or banjo playing the main tune... I can't distinguish which string instrument it is exactly), and at the end of the song it sounds something that I think it must be a bagpipe or something similar (there are strange "whistles" which sound something similar to a bagpipe).

I hope you like it, and I hope Philip likes this cover besides NUFAN's one (although I'm afraid he seems to be quite "exacting" with all the covers of "Fairytale Of New York").

I hope you all enjoy it:

Welp - I've just looked at a backup copy of the forum database from Dec 17 of last year. Let's call it "a year old" (though it is, of course, only 11 months). That post looks exactly the same in that year-old backup as it does today, so if anything has been modified in that time, there's no record of it.

As of April 6, 2007 (a few days after you posted your links) minorcrisis.net claimed to be The Number 1 MP3 Uploader And Hotlink Source:

http://web.archive.org/web/200704060016 ... risis.net/

Looks like you hosted your files there and that web site/business has since gone out of business (no, I'm not implying any connection between the two events).

But hey - if you prefer you can go one believing that I, Zuzana or MacRua have changed your links. That's cool too.
