I know he's a Dub, it just dosn't work, your right. Barney, the original singer with Blood or Whiskey has the soul / feeling, to carry it off convincingly.

But since he's left, Blood or Whiskey is not very good if you ask me...

You're right, and with all the paddy rock bands out there, he had/has a great voice while the others don't.

Ditto.. I think Dave King is an interestingly driven man. I quite like their music, in fact, I wish I could write anything half as good as they do. Tobacco Island is a fine song for example.
And, regarding the never-ending debate : there ARE only so many notes, cadences, riffs, motifs, and things out there. Sooner or later they get re-used. By the logic used by some folks (like folk purists for example), The Pogues themselves made considerable 'borrowings' from the trad music corpus. How 'original' was that? By MY standards it was HIGHLY original, but others may disagree. Good luck to 'em and fuck the begrudgers.

agreed

Stop comparing Flogging Molly to The Pogues. The music is where the differences lie. One reviewer said Flogging Molly uses more fiddle, but the Pogues used more of the tin whistle and also the cittern to name a few instruments. The songwriting points of Dave King are not even in the same universe as MacGowan's poetry. I've seen both bands live and The Pogues concert was the best, because when all is said and done the created the genre. Oh yeah, three Flogging Molly songs totally rip off The Pogues.

I think it's a given that The Pogues put on a better show than Flogging Molly. And yes, at least three of their songs pay tribute to The Pogues. But they're not trying to be The Pogues. And if they play anywhere near you, you ought to give them a try.

Me too, a couple of times actually. If the Pogues won't come to European mainland there's only Flogging Molly left to go to
