I'll be seeing him a few times in the next month in the GA section. Now that he's taken to playing fan requests I'm going to have to bring a sign asking for Body of an American, The Sunnyside of the Street or maybe Sally MacLennane. Not sure which one he could play off the top of his head!

It's uncanny how Bruce has very similar manerisms (spelling?) and style to Joe Strummer when playing that song. How does this work? Do the band take suggestions for covers off the website and practice? It can't be just on the spur of the moment :?

The covers must really add to the gig's atmosphere. I saw him last year, he was fantastic.

I'm gonna see if Philip, Shane or Spider and the boys will cover Born To Run in December   8)

HA!

Actually he does play these spontaneously. Last year on his "Magic tour"
The fans started bringing song titles written on any scrap of cardboad as you could see in the video. During the middle segment of the show Bruce will walk around the entire stage from side to side pointing out signs and bring 20 or so up on stage. Then the next 5-10 songs he would play those the fans brought on the signs. Some were covers some were his much revered older rarely played tunes. Its quickly becoming a highlight of each show.

Last time I saw Bruce, on the Magic tour in London, at the end of the gig I overheard some guys coming out insisting that he'd played "that Pogues song" (the last of the three you mention). What he had actually played was, of course, American Land.

:!: The first time I heard American Land I thought it might be a cover. It ends up Bruce did write it.

Went to see Bruce last night in Hersey PA, he played this song explaining it had been originaly written in 185 by Steven Foster, and still appropriate today
This isn't from last nights show but it was the best version I saw available. Thought you guys might enjoy it.

Just a side note found out Bruce sang "Amrerican Land with the Dropkick Murphys when he played Boston recently.

Unfurtunately the only vid I could find was from a guy some of the worst seats in the house. Even the clip from last night is a grainy mess and 1:00 long.

Well done to the both of you. Look forward to a full report of the gigs. 8)

Will do, no need to be jealous if anyone's in the NY area, we have extra for first weekend in October. I'm hoping to also have Pogue tickets in hand for the furthest eastern city on autumn tour by then! New Orleans? <praying closer>
