It's like... Irish Reggae?!

Heh, at least it's original I suppose.

The frontman is the same guy as in Black'47 right? I like them quite a bit, remind me of the Beastie Boys or something.

New Seanchai Album

Post Sat Mar 24, 2007 7:41 pm

Got that new Seanchai album 'Irish Catholic Boy' and it's great.

Gypo
Bogside Girl
Mary Margret
Patriot
Ernesto Guevara Lynch
Irish Catholic Boy

are my favourite tracks.

The DJ played ICB and EGL last night  good stuff.

The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

I saw them open for Shane and The Popes a number of times, early in the 21st century. I got a t-shirt at a show at a small pub on Long Island. On the back it says UNREPENTANT FENIAN BASTARD. I'm sure Oirish would love it....Saw the girl from the band sing Fairytale with Shane a couple of times. I thought she did a nice job.

Havn't heard this, but i'm curious if this is a response to "Bodside Man" at all?

The Bogside man is the man for me
He's cut recruitin' in the RUC...

Interesting point actually. I haven't heard that song, is it a Loyalist tune (would explain why lol)? Bogside Girl doesn't sound like a response to anything, its just about a girl growing up in Derry.

The woman in Seanchai (Chris Byrne's missus I think) is a great singer, and a fuckin stunner too... aboy the Chris ;)

Definitely NOT a loyalist tune...

Chorus:
Steady on you aim with that petrol bomb
don't throw it son 'till the peelers come...

Specials came in brown & black
Your Granny ran out & they all ran back
She married the bogside man...

The bogside now has been set free
the rats have left with the RUC...

i think it's based on a chantey "Hogseye Man".

Have a record, a soundtrack to a 70s doc about the IRA, called "No Go!", product of a pub nite of socialist republican music organized for the event, that has this Bogside Man sung by a little girl, Caroline Quigley. Also has my favourite version of Four Green Fields on it.

Check the link for the Rebel Masive cd by Seanchai & The Unity Squad .
think there is a sound bite on there as well.
The track Mise Eire is based on the English translation of the poem by Patrick Pearse .
