Go, Zuzana, go. You will not regret it. Mr Cave's gigs are a thing to treasure. Sadly I don't think there's any way I can get to the UK ones this time. Bah.

GO!

I saw Henry Rollins Provoked tour this evening and during the show he mentioned that he flew to San Francisco all the way from Beirut specifically to see the Grinderman tour. Henry gives Mr. Cave the big thumbs up. (and Clash Cadillac is now asking himself why he has not sought out Mr. Cave especially since his US shows have become less frequent then even the Pogues...)

Clash, you're not the only one asking self. It will be on my "to do" list. We gave away our Rollins tickets this tour due to unforseen circumstances. How was he?

He runs out on stage and starts talking a million miles per minute non-stop for 3 hours straight. Very cerebral. He told tales of his visits to Pakistan (he was there during Bhutto's death), Syria, Iraq, Iran, Beirut and South Africa. He expressed how nice these people are and how much they don't hate Americans. He spoke about the old days of "Arena Rock" and seeing "Terrible Ted" Nugent and Van Halen back in the day; and more recently. He spoke of singing with one of his all time favorite bands The Ruts during their last show in July of last year at the Islington Academy in London. The reason for this was guitarist Paul Fox was dying of cancer. The Damned and UK Subs supported. Also, he mentioned that Nick Cave snookered both he and Jello Biafra into coming out and playing "The Pips" to Nick's "Gladys Knight" in San Fran. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and found a smile plastered on my face for most of the evening.

I strongly recommend seeing Henry do his thing. A night I will not soon forget.

Well, I think on this tour he'll be promoting the new album Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!. Which is released on 3rd March. All I've heard so far is the title track, which can be heard here: http://www.nickcaveandthebadseeds.com/

But I'd say there's every chance he'll be doing some of his old stuff too.

Ah, through the wonders of the www thing, they are available through the "lyrics" section here: http://www.nick-cave.com/

You have to register. But it's a good resource.

NME gives 8 stars (of 10) to Lazarus:
Full URL
Despite a namecheck for Lazarus in the album title, don’t call this a comeback. Everyone’s favourite black-haired, waggly armed harbinger of the gothic psycho-sexual apocalypse has not only been here for years, but in the last few leading up to his half-century (he was 50 in September), Nick Cave’s been killing it harder than ever. The Satanic majesty of last year’s stripped-down Grinderman project has spilled over on to this 14th Bad Seeds album. Cave sings every line like a Batman villain, with a blend of high camp, wit and genuine menace. “I don’t know what it is but there’s definitely something going on upstairs!” he leers on the title track, eyebrow arched so highly you can be sure that he’s not talking about a loft conversion. He’s swept along on a funky groove, with backing chants, Hammond swirls and Warren Ellis’ violin, conditioned – as it is throughout the album – to sound like the ominous creaking of a rusty medieval torture device.‘Night Of The Lotus Eaters’ is based on a grimy two-note tape loop. While ‘Midnight Man’ is propelled by snaking synth and sitar lines.

Meanwhile, ‘Moonland’ makes impressive use of the tabla. Just when The Bad Seeds seemed content to settle into middle-age as a cabaret gospel showband – albeit an extraordinary one – they’ve bared their teeth again.
Several tracks still rely too heavily on Cave’s familiar ranting preacher routine and maybe only two or three would muscle their way into a greatest hits set. However, let’s put that into perspective. Also turning 50 this year are Prince, Madonna, Paul Weller, Shane MacGowan, Ice-T and Michael Jackson. Even if they got together to form a freakish supergroup, they’d struggle to make an album containing as much vitality, humour and invention as Cave and his wizened cronies have.

If you can get a ticket, I'd say that's a bargain. I'm pretty sort of devastated that I'm missing them in London this week.

I'm not sure of the exact dates, but I know Ed Kuepper, a founding member of seminal Brisbane punk band The Saints and subsequent performer of some damn fine post-punk (including the Aints and Laughing Clowns) and all matter of fantastic and eclectic solo offerings, is supporting Cave for some European dates....This is a real treat in my opinion - I saw him earlier this year - he's fucking fantastic, and his new(ish) album Jean Lee and The Yellow Dog has been getting rave reviews. If anyone's interested check out the following.
