I've got tickets for February 17th in Cologne. Looking forward to it.

Is anybody else going to seem?

Does anyone know their current set list?

With the fabulous Mr Irish Bastard from your own country kicking ass in support.
The Tossers will have to be really good to impress me more than that lot. :!:
I heard Mr Irish BAstard were voted best PaddyRock band in Germany, and rightly so, I think !! :P

also curious about a set list :?:

Well, the concert in Cologne was yesterday. Tiny little club, only around 50 people in the audience ( I guess ). Tickets had been cheap, only around € 12. Drinks in the club were not too expensive either. I went with my wife and my cousin and his girlfriend who live in the street where the club is. I was the only fan among them actually.

Before the gig started, members of the tossers drank at the bar or ingered at the merchandise-stall.

The support were a German band called "Mr. Irish Bastard". They were okay, but the sound was horribly mixed.

Actually it sounded much better when you were in toilets in the cellar below.

Then the Tossers entered the stage, starting with the instrumental from the new album, continuing with "Never enough" and then "Good Mornin' Da'". Excellent, furious start. Great band, the banjo player was missing though. The instrumental performance was very good and so was Tony's. He appeared rather drunk and continued drinking on stage, but no line of the lyrics missed, great voice and good work with the mandolin. They seemed to enjoy themselves on stage. Real fun. And the sound was far better than for the support.
Some unexpected songs were played, such as "Auld Triangle", "Muirshin Durkin", "Dirty old Town" and even "Turkish Song of the Damned", the last one dedicated to Spider. They played a couple of verses of "Donegal Express" and finished with "Parting Glass" ( vocals + fiddle only ).

One thing suprised me. Most of the band are rather small. That's not a bad thing, I'm small as well, but I had somehow expected them to be taller.

Those were some nights for a gradually ageing couple !!!

Last Thursday (Feb. 14) brought the best PaddyPunk band of Holland to my hometown Delft: CIRCLE J. Pitty that only me and my missus were genuinely impressed by that, but the band was not taken out and played a fine set anyway.

Than, for something else, Friday- and Saturdaynight brought loads of bluesbands to Delft, for the annual bluesfestival, with at least twenty odd bars hosting live music. Great stuff, my only wish being that they'd started doing an Irish Music Festival too, like the city of Deventer does.

And than, to top it off, we went to Mr. Irish Bastard and The Tossers for two consecutive nights. Both bands were great on both nights, though too few were around to share the fun and joy, perhaps a 150 on Sunday in Tilburg and a 100 on Monday in Utrecht (maybe not the best nights for scheduling gigs). For us, Sunday was THE BEST by far, seeing our friends from Mr Irish Bastard (their cd has been my missus's favorite for quite a while) again, opening up for The Tossers. Both bands played convincingly and enthousiastically. The Tossers played a rather lengthy set, including loads of my personal favourites from their repertoire, among which No loot, no booze, no fun. Along the way, they picked up some traditionals and a Pogues song (Turkish Song of the Damned). The set was brought to a close by their great version of Parting Glass, vocal and fiddle only. Yet during the glasses prior to that one, there was much to enjoy too. Their whistle player makes it no secret who his personal hero is (Spider), his brother the frontman appeared a bit out of it between songs, but sang and played with great energy and dedication. The lady on the fiddle was the most lively of the pack. What added to the fun greatly was meeting up with two of the three guys I'd traveled to Ireland with to see the Pogues play Belfast and Dublin. Regettably, the fourth crew member, good old Micky Molloy, was in bed with a flu and couldn't make it ... take care Mick !!
Monday was great, really, but I guess we were running out of energy a bit. What made it wonderful was that The Tossers weren't too tired to mix with the audience afterwards for drinks and talks.
So very very enjoyable altogether.

Went to see them in Utrecht last monday and I had a blast. Don't exactly know the setlist ofcourse, but they started with an instrumental, then Never Enough, Goodmorning Da', The Crutch and so on. They did a couple of traditionals (if you call 'em that way) - Dirty Old Town, Dicey Reilly, Johnny I and some other. They played a couple of songs off of all albums, but they only did one song off Purgatory (Faraway).

They also played Turkish Song Of The Damned which was pretty cool, and did an attempt at playing It's A Long Way To The Top, but they cut it off after one line cause Tony didn't know the words. Tony did one solo song, which was The Auld Triangle. I never thought he was a great singer or anything, but he did a great version of this one.
They finished with The Pub (my personal favorite, plus their loudest one I think) and The Parting Glass. Their fiddlist (is that a word?) impressed me most - she was great. The guys seemed pretty drunk, and fucked up some of the songs. But I guess that's part of the show. Also they didn't have their banjo player with them, and they had a substitute bassplayer hammering his bass like a maniac. It was a great show, looking forward seeing 'em again sometime.

The Tossers are releasing a live CD/DVD soon. On Victory's website it says it was supposed to be released yesterday, but maybe because I am in Canada, stores won't receive it before next week. I can't wait! :)

Saw them tonight. My third time at it and a damn good show. There wasnt much of a crowd which would have made it better but they played a good long set taking many pogues penned requests. I spoke to Tony before the gig seemed like a really good guy and a few of the other band members afterwards and they all seemed sound as well. I must say its the soberest I've seen Tony preform which was both good and bad in its own way. What bothered me is there was no support. I really like the Tossers but £7.50 for 1 act is a bit pricey especially when they havent played in the city before and arent well known. I dont know what happened to Bible Code Sunday who were suppose to open but I do know a local streetpunk act who have opened for the Murphys on a number of occasions offered but were turned away. A good night anyways though.

Hmmm, the banjo player wasn't at the SF show with the Dropkick Murphys back in November either. Anyone know what happened to him?

I really feel like Tony is trying to become Shane Macgowan. Drinking habits reminiscent to those of the man, and I saw an interview with him in which his laugh made me think of Shane's laugh. Maybe it's just me, don't know. :P

Yes, because obviously Shane MacGowan is the only musican who drinks.

Tony is Tony. But his laugh does sound like Shane's.
