hey,

Ive seen the tossers 3 times, just took lunch early and went and got the new album. My question is, they play a song live with the line "black is the color of my true loves hand (or) hair" i have everything they've ever done and i have tonys solo album. Still i have no idea where this song comes from or what its called. Maybe its a leftover from his solo sessions. Anyone that can help?

I did every store today, couldn't find it. We usually get the albums a little bit later in Canada, so I guess I will be able to buy it somewhere this week or next week. Can't wait!

What do you guys think of their first single? And there is a video of it on the Victory website. What do you think of it?

I think it is a really great song, and it reminds me a lot of the Pogues, especially the song Boat Train. The video is cool, but nothing special.

Christy Moore does a live version of it. Christy Moore - Live at the Point 1994. I have a copy of it somewhere. Before he plays the song Moore talks about how beautiful the song is and that he absolutely had to play it live himself. I can't, for the life of me, remember who Moore saw perform, though.

Thanks for the help guys. And why is everyone so down on the last tossers album? It was amazing. Ive listened to the new one like 7 times already and im not overly joyed. Im sure it'll grow on me. in the thanks section not only do they thank spider and his wife in the middle, but at the end it says and the pogues. Paying respect. nice to see.

I really liked The Valley... when it came out and I listened to it for months. It's just that I eventually got tired of it. The new one sounds fresh and I got it one hour ago. I never waited that much for an album.

What's the deal with the lead singer of the Tossers?
Their bio says that they are from Chicago but the lead singer seems to affect an Irish accent. Is he some sort of cyborg?

He is of Oirish descent. I think some people in his family are first generation Oirish, with the accent that comes with it.

He is not from Oireland though, and his accent is supposed not to be the best in the world.

Can someone tell me what's so wrong with it? Not being English-speaking myself, I find it alright, but I guess you can tell better than me when an English accent is bad or not.

This has been my assumption all along. My wife moved to the States from England and points beyond. Peer pressure in school motivated her to lose the accent and she has none today. I suspect Tony had accented people around him and didn't have the same kind of peer pressure. That said, I talked with him briefly before a show in Baltimore and I couldn't really pick out an accent, and when he addressed the crowd he didn't have it. So he can turn it on and off as he sees fit, apparently. Which is a hell of a lot better than just pretending to have an accent you never really had.

Yeah. And anyway, I have seen people complain about the accent of the singer of Flogging Molly, not knowing he's really Irish. And people complained about the accent of the Real McKenzies' singer, but the guy's from Scotland!

I think that you can't really tell whether an accent is good or not when someone is singing. The only reason people complain is because they now that Tony is not really Irish. Were we to learn tomorrow that he was a real Irish all along, people would stop complaining and would just accept it.

Don't know a helluva lot about these guys, but the singer may be affecting a brogue much in the way Ohio-born Robert Pollard from Guided By Voices slips into an English accent in many of their tunes. It's a long standing tradition in pop music--think of all the British invasion bands (the Beatles and Stones included) who mysteriously slipped into American accents once they started belting out rock 'n roll tunes.

Personally, I don't care for the current wave of American Irish-tinged punk whether their roots lie in Chicago or County Tyrone. Fourth generation streetpunk mixed with tin whistles does not a great band make. I'll take Luke Kelly or Altan over Irish drinking songs played at 78 RPM anyday.
