The Sterotypes

Post Tue May 24, 2005 1:03 pm

Hello my name is Jonathan Carrey I'am a guitar player in an Irish band called The Sterotypes we play a variety of Irish music We've been a band four about 3 years now I'm 25 and the youngest memeber of the band. We are playing a gig in Snell's bar/resturant in Hammersmith , on Saturday week the 4th of June. If anyone is interested and within traveling distance do come along. I think we're good even if you don't. We are a five piece band. Made up of myself on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, (we've only gt two mikes and mike stands, we would like more at somepoint), banjo player/lead vocals, a penny whistle player, a squeeze box player, and a drummer who has a variety of drum kit sizes depending on the size of the venue we're playing. All are welcome.

We also have two pogues songs on our set-list Dirty Old Town, and Sally MacLennane, I'd love to play more like If I Should Fall From Grace With God, but in a five peace band you have to listen to the whole band also thats a hard song to play. we did play Fairytale (without a key board) and not nearly as good as The Pogues and Kirsty McCall, but our female whistle player left last summer (bloody Aussie) and we didn't want to use two male voices as we didn't want come across as either taking the piss or making the song sound gay.

But we use material from 'trad' songs that the pogues have covered like the auld triangle, the galway races, some Dubliners songs, a few others, set normally last between 90mins till 2hours.

P.S We don't play any Irish/American punk band shit. So if you want that don't come and see us.

We don't have a web-site, and I'am not really impressed at the guest who suggested we are full of ourselves, I was making the point that Irish music is Irish music and I believe it doesn't matter if played my an Irish man in a pub, or played by a french monkey as long as it stays in the traddition, and I think American punks bands to have no place in Irish music, it's a personnel opinion, (which is what I though a forum is for away) it doesn't represent the opinion of everyone in Ireland and I'm sure not in my band anyway.

BTW Snell's bar is directly across the road from the park in Hammersmith.
I've also noticed that members of the pogues post here, your very welcome to come down, (if you live near the area that is)

Woofer, have you ever seen us? Well you shouldn't judge, you are very welcome to come and see, I'll even buy you a drink. I never said we were the best, but I think we're good, of I may be bais as I'm in the band.

I'm not going to say we're absolute shit now am I? Thats not great marketing.
