Interesting set of bands on over the 3 days and no mistake...

Blood or Whiskey are fucking class! Or at least they used to be.

Looking at a few clips on youtube, they should have the place well warmed up by the time FM get on.

Yeah they'd be brilliant for support. I don't understand this "we don't want anyone too similar to the Pogues" thing regarding support bands at Xmas. So instead we get lumped with some skinny jeans indie oddballs  bring back DKM! Or bring in Damien Dempsey/BibleCodeSundays!!

In all the time's I've seen the Pogues over the years, without doubt the Dropkick's were the best support band, In Manchester the place was buzzing before the Pogues appeared. Having said that Amsterdam who supported at Liverpool got the place going too, which i always kind of thought was the idea of the support act?

I'd love to see Flogging Molly support them, but i dont think that will happen somehow!

Larkin Love? Fucking hell.

Cracking gig last night as per usual, they even played Kilburn High Road which I’ve not heard them do live before, Blood or Whiskey were great too. If a little loud!!!! Shout outs from King to Cash, Strummer and Drew again. Quite strange to hear that after the set had ended and the lights came on the magnificent Empress Ballroom Ronnie Drew signing the Parting Glass was blasted out of the speakers at full volume…!

And a feature on Neck too. Who don't have their own thread, do they?
Anyway, it's a good read as ever.

FM are very good, but as I learned, don't go listening to them as an extension of The Pogues. I've tried DKM and The Young Dubliners as well, looking to satisfy my Irish sweet tooth, but I realized I was really just looking for more Pogues, and ya ain't gonna find it anywhere else! Darn.

Completely agree FM is no Pogues. Not buy a longshot. I just post concert info for anyone that may have an interest in seeing these bands.

Sorry if I came off sounding snobby. What a boring world this would be if there were no variations between musical styles. Flogging Molly kicks ass. Who am I to compare? The Pogues have obviously spoiled me, and now I just need to open up my mind and sample whatever else is on the plate.

Nah not snobby at all. It's all about seeing who you can when you can.

The new live DVD/CD is a great listen, Floging Molly have some really good tunes.... IF you can see past Dave King trying that bit to hard sometimes to live up to the all drinking all swearing Irishman act! it grates after a while.

Over eager front man aside, its well worth the 8.95 on play.com

FM are a great live band (saw them back in '04,) and I will leave it at that. I have their albums, but all of them have failed to impress me. I like some songs on Swagger and Drunken Lullabies, put after that it is one pensive song afther other, and sometimes I can't tell one song from the next, because almost all of them sound the same. Plus, I hate that Dave King tries to distance himself from The Pogues, saying FM is more influenced by Johnny Cash and others, well that may be, but give fucking credit, where it is due; given the fact that I can name at least five or six songs by FM that sound exactly like The Pogues.
