who do u think has done the best cover of a pogues song?

I'm downloading Christy Moores 'A Pair Of Brown Eyes' cover from Kuften's FTP I'll post my opinion when i hear it, peace

I like it, but it's not a patch on the original. christy's a good singer but no shane.

sorry but Ronan Keating & Marie Brennan's version of 'Fairytale Of New York' will take alot to beat.

well just 4 phillip and molly bennifit I wasn't tryin 2 say it was better then the pogues and kirdty mccall's version just sayin.......it's good 4 a pop track. ok no harm intended

Christy Moore and The Fenians are rather good (light years behind the original versions, but not bad). I also find myself enjoying Thousands Are Sailing by Six Mile Bridge and Rainy Night In Soho by Nick Cave. If the worst cover versions were concerned, there would be many more top-class candidates.

A couple of years ago I heard some amateur trio do a weird but very earnest cover of "Fairytale" at an Irish pub in Nashville. They had one guy sing the whole thing AND he sang the verses all out of order to boot, so it made absolutely no sense, but the crowd ate it up anyway. The fact that it was 2-for-1 Guinness night may have been a factor in that.

Kirsty claimed she never heard a cover version of "Fairytale" and I believe her.

There are two worthwhile covers, that said: American punk band No Use For A Name and the spoken word version (in the Abbay Theatre style) by Gerry McArdle with Colette Proctor. They succeed because they do not try to emulate our version. All the rest are unadulterated crap.

I'd love to hear Bette Midler and Tom Waits do it.

I just listened back to a version of IISFFGWG by Steve Earle and it is so different from the original that I like it.

Best use for it, no doubt. But... your cat can handle a frisbee? Now that's impressive. Must try and teach mine.

Christy Moore's version of Fairytale Of NY is brilliant.

the pietasters do a pretty good "fiesta" a few words are messed up. of course. but... they get the original idea and energy.
