One of my favorite bands. See them whenever they are in Boston. Its not full of o'rish american wankery like a lot of the new Murphys stuff. I love the Dropkick Murphys they have been one of my favorite bands for a long time but I feel they really sold out with all the irish-y stuff. They completely changed their sound and became popular for it. The Street Dogs are just flat out old school Boston street punk and I love them for it. On top of it Mike is an amazingly cool guy and went to school with my aunt which I thought was pretty cool.

Agreed - I was well in to the Murpys in the 90s and saw em play in London on Autumn 1998 - just after McCoglan had left. I liked Al Barr in the Bruisers but don't think his voice is all that ... anyway, the later Murphys stuff is weak by comparison - I only really listed to Do or Die and the early singles comp now. 'Skinhead on the MBTA' remains my all time fave. Street Dogs are just great though and have the folky punk thing down well without being naff about it. Can't wait for the next European tour.

Shouts out to Boston

Post Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:31 pm

Over here in Somerset UK, Boston seems a long long way and maybe this is not the right forum but have posted on here concerning the Street Dogs.
Anyway, what the hell have you done to my ears? Why, one band isn't enough - Dropkicks, then the Street Dogs, Red Invasion, Darkbuster. Why do I feel the sounds of my youth are back, alive and well? Where the fuck is that airline ticket? What's missing elsewhere that comes to me so succintly in a little plastic cd case, telling me of far-away lands like Savin Hill and the not so far Fields of Athenry?
Love it Boston! Now I know where I can find the first-wave all over again, genuine and true. So many of the bands above cite the same bands I used to love - DarkBuster's influences make out like a list of all my favourite artists.
Anyway, where's this going? Nowhere really, it's hopefully me that's going so with one last, sad and predictable request from a set-in-his-ways Rudeboy: what about a beautifully tight and hooky oi! laden anthem excelling the wonderfulness of football and the camaraderie of a day out, drinking too much and having a pop at the opposite fans? :x

If you like them, also check out The Ducky Boys & The Blue Bloods & a new band called "Everybody Out!"( http://www.myspace.com/everybodyoutband ) Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to be able to see these bands all the time. "Darkbuster is playing with the Pug Uglies AGAIN!?!?" kind of thing.

Yeah, have got some stuff by the Ducky Boys - they're alright - but don't know the Blue Bloods or Everybody Out. Thanks for that.
The Pug Uglies and FFF are awesome and I quite like Tommy and the Terrors but all I know about them is that they're a right bunch of little terrors and the lead singer is called Tommy...?

Yes, you are lucky. When I lived in London and had very few (ok - no) committments I used to overload on gigs then got to the point of being given free tickets by my mate and not bothering to go just a few miles for a gig. Now I live down country I rarely get to see bands and it's a bit of an effort if I do. Make the most of it my friend. Boston has produced some of the most incredible bands and many are in my faves list - from Mission Of Burma, Volcano Suns, Big Dipper, SSD, DYS, Negetive FX, Gang Green, Slapshot, Pixies, Muses, Dinosaur, Galaxie 500 through to the more recent oi/street punk stuff you mention it seems to be a hot bed of music action. Never been myself but plan to make the trip one day.

I've seen Tommy and the Terrors a few times and I have to say I am unimpressed. The music isnt bad but the lead singer has absolutely no charisma. He just sort of stands there. Doesnt make for much of a live act.

Yeah I try to go to as many as I can-its hard sometimes, even though I live right in the city. From your list I recently seen Mission of Burma & Gang Green(not together of course). Both awesome shows!

What I don't like about Al Barr, apart from his voice, is how he walks around the stage with his arm behind his back! Petty? Moi?
