Well, of course, it isn't. There's your Medusan residence as well. How's the job hunting going? Score?

True although I wasn't thinking of that when I wrote it.

Job hunting has slowed down a bit as I'm off this week, went to one this morning at 9am which wasn't that easy to find so I was a bit late, don't think they'll ask me back for a second interview.

Point taken! as soon as I memorize Millwall Chainsaws' Fuck Off I'll set to it !

Now, did you have to be so rude to him? there comes a really knowledgeable person and the mod instead of welcoming him and urging him to join goes off slagging him... Ah MacRua, when will you learn...
It was on the 23rd of June
As I lay blasted in my room
A small bird sang on an ivy branch
And the song they sang was the "Jug of Punch"

Our MacRua is an impulsive kinda guy. He plays "Bad Cop" to Zuzana's "Good Cop."

How could we try to reign in that passion? Surely it would kill him.

All the forum’s is a stage and all the Medusets and Medusatas merely players, right? I just wouldn’t count on the fact that the roles are constant – look how quickly loveable Harlequins transform to wicked Pulcinellas... :)

Slagging him? Are you kidding, Paddy? All I did is paid some homage to immortal masterpiece of The Millwall Chainsaws. Is it panishable? I do like lyrics, it will take time to master but I have coped with whistling Irish Rover somehow, i'll deal with singing the song, just give me some time.

Shite, you grieved me, Paddy. I could expect it from anyone but you...

I may not be qualified to weigh in on this one, but if Damien Dempsey's "Colony" isn't a rebel song, I don't know what is. Listen to it on the live album....

also, you can't go wrong with any Ron Kavana album.

Back in the day when the old Napster was fading out and the filters were in effect, I found a motherlode of rebel songs with a user who had 700+ files, all renamed by song name and then artist -- didn't have much time, but managed to find the following, NONE of which I have found on eBay or in the stores in Dublin:

Celtic Thunder -- The Streets of Belfast
Fighting Men from Crossmaglen -- A Nation Once Again; Ireland's Fight for Freedom
Paddy's Irish Clan -- The Rising of the Moon & F.... the British Army
Pat Woods -- Irish Republican Army
Mick Moloney -- Belfast Town

I did find one Mick Moloney CD in Dublin that they wanted approx. 30 euros for, but it didn't have this song on it.

if anyone knows where I can purchase copies that are NOT mp3, please PM me.

Thanks.

There is a lovely version of "Only Our Rivers" on the first Planxty album. It's a great song, both in melody and lyrics (lyrics here), more on the sad, nostalgic side than on the rebellious one.

I think I may have a version of this song by Christy Moore somewhere.

Yeah i also have a copy of this song. I love it, it's one of my favourites.

Care to recommend anyone? I've got/heard quite a bit from Shebeen (tho the guy seems to be trying too hard and ends up sounding real strained), Eire Og, Gary Og, Irish Brigade, Wolfetones, Charlie & The Bhoys and Athenrye.

shebeen are a great band, Ive seen them plenty of times, the highlight being a great show in the garvaghy road community centre. members include padraig of saoirse, and i feel theyve a connection with eire og and gary og

I had a feeling that they might be better live and were let down by poor recording equipment or something.. but the only good song I've heard of theirs is 'Disband The RUC' and that's only because I havn't heard anyone else sing it so there's no comparison ;)

A few tunes/bands that are not the ususal suspects as far as "Rebel Music" goes:

Ron Kavanna-Home Fire

The Irish will Ireland in our time

Mick Moloney-O'Hara, Hughes, McCreesh and Sands

But short is the hour of those in power who truth and the rights of man betray, But the fight will go on and we’ll not be done while man is unfree in this fair land, And in freedom’s days we will sing in praise of O’Hara, Hughes, McCreesh and Sands.

Black 47-Fire of Freedom and James Connolly

Marchin' down O'Connell Street with the Starry Plough
on high, There goes the Citizen Army with their fists
raised in the sky , Leading them is a mighty man with a mad
rage in his eye , "My name is James Connolly - I didn't, come here to die
But to fight for the rights of the, working man
And the small farmer too, Protect the proletariat from the bosses and their screws, So hold on to your rifles, boys, and don't give up your dream
Of a Republic for the workin' class economic liberty
I'm a free born man of the USA
