The Greenland Whalefishers planning Uk tour?

Bit of possible news (and this is going to be of interest to just a few of you) is that GWF are planning to return to England this summer for just a handful of gigs...
There are no dates as yet but it's expected to be June or July and they have expressed an interest in playing Birmingham and Manchester specifically.
Some of the gigs were badly attended last tour so let's try and make up for it this year and give 'em a great reception!!!

Think of Pogues but fro,m Scandinavia.

Their website has the most peculair ordering system ever: you have to order, they send you the stuff and then you send them money through mail

Their singer's voice looks a lot like Shane's as well

You can try some samples at their website.

Hehe, yeah.. I guess the reason behind that is that sometimes when you order you don't get anything at all. 8)

I bought cds from the web site thesame way ( cd sent after email request and money sent on arriveal . It worked well )
Also got some lower priced cds from Mark using the above email . i think I am right in saying as well as the GWF web site you can get cds from the above email if in UK and a little cheaper.

I went through a bizarre episode tonight and I want to share it with you guys. It's nothing special for you guys, but I was stunned. Here you go:

I have been listening to The Pogues for quite a while now. I found the Greenland Whalefishers couple years ago and I downloaded all the mp3's they had on their homepage. I bought all The Pogues records couple years back (I am such a junior), but I was never able to find any GWF records from local distributors.

Tonight we had a nice punkrock gig over here. One local punkrock guy had his full distro over there and I browsed it through while drinking a nice pint of lager.

And then, suddenly, a lightning struck me. Right out of nowhere: There it was! Greenland Whalefishers - Streets of Salvation CD! He had exhanged some finnish punkrock cd's with some english punk dude while touring around the Great Britain last summer. So he received lots of stuff in the exhange, which included just one GWF CD. He never knew what the band was all about.

Tonight I found the CD from his distro. There was couple hundreds of other CD's, but I managed to spot this one out of them all, while being really, really hammered. I pretty much jumped right up to the air and bought the CD no matter how much he wanted out of it.

To be honest, I have no clue how much I paid for this record. It was below 10 Euros I guess. Really a bargain.

So here I am now, listening to this precious GWF CD which I thought I could never find. Atleast not from my local pub, just around the corner, from my friend's distro. This is just incredible.

Another sidenote is that I was THIS close to travel to BERGEN, Norway to watch Shane MacGowan and The Popes WITH THE GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS just a year ago! I just didnt find enough cash to travel over there, so I skipped the trip.

I guess this sounds really ridiculous and trivial , but it wasnt that to me. Long live The Pogues and the GWF :D

Congratulations! It really is a good one, isn't it?

Nothing trivial about it. Thanks for sharing your story about finding that one piece of music you've been searching for. Whatever it cost, it's priceless.

""Gig wise looks like a bit of a blow on the Manchester gig. Unfortunately for most of you they are flying in, playing two Midlands gigs then flying out again.

Friday 16th June - The Mitre, Lower High Street, Stourbridge (Near Dudley / Wolves / Brum) - T.B.C. Don't know who's organising this one so I don't know any details or even if it definitely happening.
Saturday 17th June - Market Tavern, Digbeth, Birmingham..T.B.C. Support from DSS. It's a very friendly but very punk crowd there. Last time they played a chandelier fell off the roof downstairs it was that wild.
