I went through a bizarre episode tonight and I want to share it with you guys. It's nothing special for you guys, but I was stunned. Here you go:
I have been listening to The Pogues for quite a while now. I found the Greenland Whalefishers couple years ago and I downloaded all the mp3's they had on their homepage. I bought all The Pogues records couple years back (I am such a junior), but I was never able to find any GWF records from local distributors.
Tonight we had a nice punkrock gig over here. One local punkrock guy had his full distro over there and I browsed it through while drinking a nice pint of lager.
And then, suddenly, a lightning struck me. Right out of nowhere: There it was! Greenland Whalefishers - Streets of Salvation CD! He had exhanged some finnish punkrock cd's with some english punk dude while touring around the Great Britain last summer. So he received lots of stuff in the exhange, which included just one GWF CD. He never knew what the band was all about.
Tonight I found the CD from his distro. There was couple hundreds of other CD's, but I managed to spot this one out of them all, while being really, really hammered. I pretty much jumped right up to the air and bought the CD no matter how much he wanted out of it.
To be honest, I have no clue how much I paid for this record. It was below 10 Euros I guess. Really a bargain.
So here I am now, listening to this precious GWF CD which I thought I could never find. Atleast not from my local pub, just around the corner, from my friend's distro. This is just incredible.
Another sidenote is that I was
THIS close to travel to BERGEN, Norway to watch Shane MacGowan and The Popes WITH THE GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS just a year ago! I just didnt find enough cash to travel over there, so I skipped the trip.
I guess this sounds really ridiculous and trivial , but it wasnt that to me. Long live The Pogues and the GWF
